What are some good places to live there or close, 15-20 mins from GW hospital?

Looking for a 1 bedroom apartment, around 1000 or slightly above?

do you want roommates? 15- 20 mins from GW covers a huge area BTW.

Try Rosslyn or Arlington. 1531 N. Pierce St. is a nice place and not too expensive in comparison with DC proper. For 1k, you will need 1 roommate.

who wants to live in rosslyn, eww. if he's willing to live with a roommate he could do some of clarendon/courthouse. you will not find a 1 bedroom (even really a studio) under $1k in north arlington

My wife and I have a place there. We are surrounded by businesses and during the evening, it is relatively quiet. My wife and I pay 2k for a one bedroom. I would think with a roommate the OP could get away with about 1k per month.

Look at the Waterfront area. There's a metro stop right by there, and rent is still very reasonable. We got fairly lucky and snatched a place in Columbia Heights for a good price. If you look really hard, you might still find a 1br English basement that's close to a grand. There're plenty of [small] studios in that price range though.

Small studios in decent areas (dupont, capitol hill, foggy bottom) run for about $1200 including utilities. There's no where in NW or NoVa I'd want to live in for $1k that is a 1 bedroom or studio. He should look into getting a roommate. Alan, you should look into the capitol hill area closer to the baseball stadium. A lot of new high rise apartments that are half empty with very good prices (my roommate and I pay $925 each for a 1 bedroom with a den with parking lot, etc.). Close to the Capitol South metro which is on the same line as Foggy Bottom (which is where the GW hospital is), and if you have a car, a few blocks from I-395 which could get you to the hospital in 5 minutes without traffic. PM if more questions or you need a roommate as I know a guy looking.

After her 1st week of traffic, she will see the genius behind the Metro. She can get cheap rent if she is willing to live at least 1 hour away from DC.

Your friend may be able to find something in her price range if she looks at the end of the VA side of the Orange Line past Ballston.

You're getting robbed. Do both of you work in VA?

The metro is very clean compared to the T in Boston or the NY subway system. It is also safe, when not crashing into other cars. There isn't that much crime other than the occasional property theft. You'll more than likely be off the green line so no worries. (No offense to anyone who lives on the green line)

My wife has several businesses in the DC Metro area. I used to go to DC on a somewhat regular basis as a lobbyist but not so much anymore as I am back at University full-time. We still go but it is sporadic.

I don't think we are getting robbed. First, it is a new build (June 2009). We furnished the place while construction was still going on. No rats or roaches to worry about!! You should see the rats in Foggy Bottom. At first I thought I was looking at a stray dog. We quickly found out that places are not on the market for very long. There is no such thing as thinking it over for a week. The rest of the country might be in a recession, but the DC Metro area is not...at least not in terms of real estate.

What are the job opportunities for Finance people, relatively fresh out of school (1-2 years)? My friend interviewed with an employment agency in DC today, and from what they said the market is far better there than the rest of the country...
