Aftershave balm and moisturizing

Most men's facial moisturizers tell you to use it morning and night. So on days that you shave and have to use aftershave balm, what do you do? Do you put on the aftershave balm and then put on the moisturizer (which may sting a little even if you don't use aftershave balm)? Or do you put on both but only put the moisturizer on those parts of your face that the aftershave balm doesn't touch? Or do you just forego the moisturizer that day? Thanks in advance.

I use it on the parts where I haven't shaved. I find that it clogs the pores if I use it on the shaven parts, and causes ingrown hairs. A good aftershave will also be pretty moisturizing in itself.

Aftershave balm is a moisturizer with antiseptic and/or anti inflammatory properties.

There is really no rule for this. If you know to shave well enough in the morning your skin will be fine by night and not require aftershave then just dont use it. If you still dont know how to shave well then use the aftershave. If I get a bad shave Ill usualy apply aftershave to the problem aireas and fill the rest in with a night cream or jojoba oil.

Ditto.

As the others have said, aftershave balm is moisturizer. If your skin is still dry after shaving and applying aftershave balm, apply your other moisturizer too. If not, don't.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I just thought of another problem, however ... I use Nivea products, and the Nivea moisturizer contains SPF 15, whereas the Nivea aftershave balm has no SPF. So while using both aftershave AND moisturizer would be redundant, do you think it might still be a good idea to, after using the aftershave, put on some moisturizer just to get some sun protection?

What are the active ingredients in the Nivea SPF 15 moisturizer? The SPF of 15 indicates UVB-protection, but if I remember correctly that product does not contain adequate UVA-protection. I wouldn't rely on it for sun protection.

Ever thought of shaving at night?

No. Not that sun protection isn't good, but if it isn't formulated as an aftershave, the chances of that moisturizer hurting or causing inflamation are rather high. You may want to try a spray on sunscreen like Kinesys, but, then again, pretty much all sunscreen in the US absolutely sucks since we can't get properly photostabilized formulas or effective sunscreens like mexoryl. Simplest solution: listen to Reggs and shave at night. Andrew: almost all sunscreens sold in the US are worthless for UVA protection. Thank the FDA for that.

Check out Vichy, they make the best sunscreens available in my opinion. They also have one to use on your face.
