For me, it's probably still Harrod's food department... So much deliciousness... mmmm. And tons of hot bored women in stilettos kind of helps too.

Dean & Deluca. Not sure if it's counted as higher end, and it's not exactly a food store, but Williams-Sonoma is excellent.

+1 ... I particularly loved grabbing a bite at their grill counter (hope it's still there).

+0.5 ... I forgot to mention I love hitting the Japanese department store basements. I've only had the chance to visit them in HK and Singapore so I can't speak to their authenticity vs Japan.

Peck or Fauchon. Both are touristy, but both are better than anything else.

Wow.. that reminds me.. .I have some Fauchon canned foie gras in the fridge.. I should bust that out!

Best ever near places I've lived... Draeger's and Balducci's, the former being much better.

Can't believe nobody has mentioned Zabar's or Cittarella... although I stand by Central Market

You know, now that I think about it, listing the location of the store would be nice since I don't know half the places you guys are talking about...

I thought Draeger's was much better before the San Mateo store opened. Seems worse to me over the past decade. Could just be inflated memories. I used to go there for a sandwich nearly every day during high school.

HEB Central Market is in TX - San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, and Houston, I believe. Zabar's and Cittarella are in NYC Dean and Deluca is in Soho, but I believe they have MANY locations now, along the east coast (even Charlotte) Hediard and Fauchon are in Paris. But I believe each has an outpost in Manhattan. Harrod's is, I believe, in the UK. I have never been to one. Walmart, I'm assuming was a joke... but if you don't know... don't worry I've never heard of the rest either. Anyone? Beuller?
