I mean drinking lets say a nice bottle of wine over several hours on a night in while enjoying a good book or an interesting movie?

Definitely enjoying life. I finished Brideshead Revisited over a bottle of Bordeaux last night, next to the fire (it was in the 40s!).

Did you go into the chapel and say a prayer after?

If I am drinking, but my girlfriend is not drinking, yet she is somewhere in the apt, does that qualify as solo drinking?

A whole bottle? Seems like a bit much for one evening alone.

over maybe 3-4 hours.

Lets be honest, a couple of glasses don't do much, and won't last for more than an hour and a half.

+1. Drinking one bottle (of wine) is no big deal, if spread out for most of the night. I mean that's only a glass of wine each hour. I do it on the reg.

Do it all the time...

A bottle of wine is nothing.

Are you serious? Often people who think drinking alone is strange are the kind of people who drink so they can be themselves with other people socially, so they wouldn't see a point to drinking alone. Usually people who drink because they enjoy the taste of whatever they're drinking (and perhaps the relaxing effect) don't see any issue whatsoever. It's like asking whether it's OK to cook a really nice meal for yourself. Of course it is.

His Ryderesque agnosticism aside, I'd see Conne as more of a Sebastian.

I almost started Decline and Fall today, but there is only so much Waugh one can take in such short periods. On to Dostoevsky I think.

You'll need the strong stuff for Dostoevsky. He may be better drunk. To answer the OP...I drink alone all the time. Doesn't seem strange to me.

One of the least alcoholic posts I have read from you.
