I mean drinking lets say a nice bottle of wine over several hours on a night in while enjoying a good book or an interesting movie?

Often people who think drinking alone is strange are the kind of people who drink so they can be themselves with other people socially, so they wouldn't see a point to drinking alone. Usually people who drink because they enjoy the taste of whatever they're drinking (and perhaps the relaxing effect) don't see any issue whatsoever. It's like asking whether it's OK to cook a really nice meal for yourself. Of course it is.
I almost started Decline and Fall today, but there is only so much Waugh one can take in such short periods. On to Dostoevsky I think.
