What do you guys think of the show?

Haven't seen it, but I like the show Dragon's Den that included Kevin O'leary. I'm sure I'd like this one.

anyone keeping up with this show? it's awesome!

Do the "sharks" on the show actually invest in he ideas presented to them? They seem more like actors, and the references they make seem more like bragging, that black guys (forget his name no racist) brand "coogi" doesn't seem like it produces much wealth. Seems like one of those "reality" shows where its just talk and they end up blowing off the contestants, but its a win win since they get free publicity and advertising out of it

i think they invest in at least 1 idea per show

I assure you that any money invested in these ideas comes directly from the network.

Show? I thought this was going to be a cool-ass thread about how you got to dive in a shark tank or, I don't know, you won the lottery and are having a shark tank installed at your house. But you're talking about a lame-ass TV show? You disappoint me, sir. Gentlemen, I will now take my leave of this thread, but not before adding some of the appropriate sharkiness it should have had in the first place. Good day! ...I said, good day!

Truth. With Dragon's Den at least, the participants have to sign a massive pile of shit to get on there. They risk losing their IP, the "investors" don't owe them anything - even if they say they'll invest - etc. Real shady stuff.

Its just entertainment - a "reality" show indeed. Fun story: a guy proposed an idea for "core shorts," basically spandex type athletic underwear that helped athletes recover from injuries. He got blown off by the guys at DD, told he was a failure and there was no market, took it to an NHL team and is now swimming in money. The exposure certainly helped him, but it goes to demonstrate that the show is essentially rich businessmen jerking eachother off and shitting on people for fun and profit.

Why do you say this? Who gets the equity that they buy?

It would certainly seem that on Dragon's Den, the Canadian show this is based off of, it is their own money. They also say so. The updates they do confirm this, and a recent news story I read referenced how much money one of the "Dragons" had tied up in investments from the show when he decided to leave the show.

Secondly, it warms my heart a bit when a Canadian show gets an American remake.

2 Comments to this. One, I can only imagine that there are a number of outs during due diligence. They are investing considerable sums on a pitch. Most deals in real life are like this. You make an offer, accept, maybe pay a deposit, and then there are conditions and timelines for due diligence to be completed. Again, they often reference this on the show and I would not expect it to be any other way.

Second, does it make the show a joke because they do not get it right all the time?

businesses can't get it right all the time. if they did, JNJ & toyota wouldn't have recall problems and BP would've foreseen problems with their oil drilling.
