I respectfully disagree with you about the dogs at Wiener's Circle - they are a solid representative of the Chicago-style dog...just ask the GreaseFreak: http://www.greasefreak.com/hotdogs.html.

Gold Coast Dogs are okay, and they have a lot of locations near state/monroe. One cool thing for lunch in that neighborhood is 7 on State (in the Macy's that was the original marshall fields flagship). There, you will find 1> Fast food Frontera 2> Marc Burger (one of the top 5 burgers in Chicago) 3> Takashi Yagahashi's noodle shop Hot Doug's is VERY far away, always WAY TOO CROWDED, and not really a Hot Dog place, but I think Kwilk should have qualified his NO rec. It's not an awful place, just doesn't fit your needs. You would not do bad with hot dogs from Portillo's at Clark / Eerie. They are very commercial, but a FINE representation of Chicago Hot Dogs... plus they make a DAMN FINE Italian Beef. BREAKFAST - You are looking for Lou Mitchell's ... it's about a half to 3/4 mile from your hotel - http://www.loumitchellsrestaurant.com/

Ron is right on all counts. Hot Doug's is great if you want to go for an unusual sausage sandwich (e.g. wild boar, ostrich) but it out of the way and too crowded if you just hanker for a Chicago-style hot dog. Portillio's serves a good, solid hot dog. Lou's is a Chicago institution for breakfast, as is Ina's in the West Loop (http://www.breakfastqueen.com) but might be out-of-the-way for your purposes.

One time when I visit, my friend take me to place named Fredhots, in area named Glenview: http://www.fredhots.com/index.php?page=Menus-Items The reindeer sausage was good, also the frites! I like this more than Hot Doug's.
