Where to buy tropical wool khaki/tan suit for summer?

I live in NYC (but am moving to San Antonio in the fall) and would like a khaki/tan suit in tropical wool to wear to work and summer weddings. I'd prefer to keep the cost under $500. Any suggestions?

Probably something from Chan, Ravi's or the like. I don't know though. Check eBay.

You're not going to get anything like that from Chan for anywhere close to $500, something close to $900 would be more liket it.

I stand corrected, hehe. I did not actually check the prices.

Brooks Brothers is a good bet. There;sa "Friends and Family" 25% discount coming up soon so you could get one of their $798 for $600.

I got a summer suit from Zegna's main line "Ermenegildo Zegna" in some of the thinnest silkiest wool I've ever felt from Filene's Basement on 6th ave this afternoon. It was the only one they had in 42R, and it was only 650, down from 1850 retail. There were also a couple at Union Square, though they were selling the SAME ONE that I bought for over 800 a few days ago.

They also stock Haspel linen summer suit separates for 120 or so (jacket). Pants are 40 or 50.

Billiebob, did they take an extra 25% off? I got an e-mail from FB saying they'd just done the rounds of markdowns. Congrats, man.

No, the only applicable markdown was the 10% off I got for opening up the FB credit card. Those savings will cover tailoring nicely.

The 25% off is only for orange sticker items, none of which I saw in suits, and defnitely not on the Canali, Zegna, Oxxford, Belvest, Armani Collezioni, Vestimenta, and other nice suits FB currently has.

I think the trick is to be among the first to know about one of the 100$ off suit sale days, and be the first in.

Ralph Lauren has khaki suits sometimes.

I had no idea that Filene's had such good labels. I will have to make a trip down there tomorrow. Oxxford, Belvest? It is hard for me to imagine. Were you at the one on 18th Street?
Thanks.

The Oxxford I've only seen at 14th St Union Square, which typically carries the largest selection of high end labels. You really have to go when they get an Oxxford shipment. They must get 40 or so at a time, and they often have interesting cuts like Oxxford Crest in super fabrics. They got some Canali suits and ties recently (800-900 for a suit, 40-50 for ties). Oxxford suits for 1000. Corneliani typically at 600. Vestimenta, and Armani Collezioni I forget, but around 700-800.

The Hickey Freeman at 14th st is priced strangely. The fused Hickey Freeman LTD is priced at 600, as is the fully canvassed Hickey Freeman Collection (models Madison, Canterbury etc.).

At 14th st Beware the entire rack of "Zegna" labeled suits, which are only "Tussuto Ermenegildo Zegna". These are thickly fused of unknown quality, and priced quite high! Who knows the manufacturer? Also, some "Manzoni" suits were priced high and sitting on the Armani rack.

At 18th st today I saw some great suits in my common size (42R). Some of the suits seemed priced much lower than at 14th st (like the zegna tropical wool suit I bought today), as if that store didn't get as much traffic. There were two Canalis (charcoal in rust windowpane), a Hart Shaffner Marx, and an Armani that were quite nice.

Like any discount store, FB is kinda hit or miss. It all depends on what your size is. If you are a Long, you will be pretty happy. Also, they have suit sales from time to time, for an extra 100 off.

I suggest Press. I haven't seen the last few Spring/Summer offerings up close, but for about $500 they used to provide a very nice suit out of tropical wool.

I have a charcoal tropical wool suit from Press and I like it. The fabric can't be considered luxurious, but it breathes very well. I paid 525 last spring. It's fused and made in USA.
