Freemasonry - Inform me

Thread Starter
I was briefly looking at things about freemasonry, and the list of all the notable freemasons, and it's pretty crazy how many important people are involved with the organization.

From a bit of googling and youtubing I came away with the freemasons being an organization promoting growth of the human race as well as way for towards personal growth. They believe in whatever "supreme being" they want as long as they believe in one.

Then there are all the conspiracy theories, new world order, blah blah blah.

Anyone have any insight on this organization and what they're really all about?

I think there was another thread about this. Use the search function. If the conspiracy theories are true... they don't tell people unless they're high up in the ranks. So even if someone was a member, they probably wouldn't know.

If you're Catholic, then it's not for you. Freemasonry is verboten.

If you're black, then you may be encouraged to sit with your own kind with the Prince Hall Freemasons

Although it is officially discouraged, I saw how it might be attractive for certain lower-ranking members (of the military) to hold authority they would otherwise not be entitled to over higher-ranking officers. Bullshit like that has the potential to disrupt the chain of command etc., but if you are feeling insecure and "under-empowered" maybe the Masons are perfect for you.

I am interested in the paidmasons, that free shit don't cut it with me.
The paidmasons wouldn't have a secret handshake, they would pass money hand to hand.

Seems a bit like a trade union to me, basically a lot of back-scratching between mutual friends to get into good and advantageous positions in society. I see nothing wrong with that. I don't buy all this stuff about it being a group of illuminati leading the New World Order and all that other rubbish about them, just a society of friends, helping each other out in a tough world.

Too bad you've never even set foot at Yale.

The Catholic part used to be true but not anymore.

Freemasonry is a great organization. I cannot think of any negatives associated with membership. They also do a lot of charity work through the York and Scottish Rite. Consider this--Freemasonry is in Iran, Israel, every country in Europe, South Africa, Philippines, Mexico, a slew of South American countries and several other countries around the world. If you are of good moral character and believe in one God, you are perfect.

Well, I don't know about the US, but in Britain the masons are certainly not segregated on racial lines. I suppose that just mirrors American society in general.

How does one join? I can't see someone being in the Freemason's and living in a city of less than 500,000 or something. Does that make sense?

To be one, ask one.

I think if you don't personally know one (hard to do) just call up a lodge.

At least in Georgia and throughout the South, any town with more than say 20 residents has a Lodge.

Same in the US. Anybody can petition to join a lodge anywhere. In the US, for some reason, blacks associate with Prince Hall Freemasons. Prince Hall went dark (no pun intended) and never officially reopened. Freemasonry thus does not recognize Prince Hall Freemasons.
