Just want to share my experience with moderntailor.com I found Modern Tailor on styleforum a few months ago. The first shirt I bought had some fit issues. The customer service, however, was responsive in addressing my issue and I was able to get some credit from them and got my second shirts from them and it was PERFECT!! I love the fabric, the style and the fit...... and they have since become my exclusive shirtmaker since!!!! They are simply the fastest MTM shop I've ever dealt with and they really have an awesome selection of ever expanding fabrics and tie collections on their website and the prices are extremely reasonable.. They also different fabrics on sale weekly and I've even noticed that they recently started to showcase customer designed shirts on their website and that really helped me in coming with my own idea on how to design my own shirts. Incredible company!!!

The only work for new clients. So even another members code won't work for you. Just post them in the appropriate thread,if you want. Of course one could have them send it to a neighbors house.

I have an example of a button down collar. I'll try to post some pictures of it tonight.

My first impression is that the collar is quite tall, and the points are fairly long, so it doesn't lay quite as I like. Mondern Tailor doesn't allow one to specify the point length or collar height. I'm hoping it will shrink up a touch with a wash or two. A thick tie would raise it up the neckline a bit, but I don't intend to wear a tie with this one, it was an experiment for the future.

I ordered the identical (measurements) shirt from three companies, modern tailor was delivered to my door in 8 days from order. More later with pre-washing pics.

Here is my second attempt. Made the sleeves a bit longer, brought in the torso measurements a bit, and I believe made the cuffs a bit bigger. They need to provide an option for a watch cuff on a given side, as I can't fit this cuff over my Seiko diver's watch. Otherwise very happy and will continue to buy from them as for the price they can't be touched, I am certain.

Ah. Unjung beat me to pics of a button down, but here are some additional for reference.

Here is the Modern shirt, and for comparison an OTR BB shirt that's been washed about a billion times. Intent of this is to show how the collar points rest in relation to the associated buttons. The BB shirt is where I think they should be, the modern shirt looks off.



This image shows where I believe the points should rest, more or less, when worn. The buttons just seem too far out to the sides to me. Collar is a little wider than spec'd, but may shrink (hopefully).


The result is, when worn, the collar seems a bit wide, and given the height of the collar itself (next pic), it tends to rest too far into the shoulders on the side of my neck.


This is the height of the collar. It seems the collar itself is about 1/4" too tall based on where it folds.


So... would I buy from them again? I like the fabric. Every other measurement is pretty close relative to the shirt I used as a reference, factoring in a shrinkage allowance. shoulders are a bit wide. The fit should be ok when it shrinks up. I apparently made a mistake and selected darts on the back instead of no pleats. I don't like darts, so here comes the seam ripper (carefully one at a time). I do not like the collar at all. If it doesn't shrink, and relocating the buttons doesn't take care of the spacing, I will not repeat this at the price.

Here is the reference shirt back to back, so you can see how much smaller the collar is. Granted, it's not a button down, but a similar effect is there with the BB shirt. this one was made for me while I was living in Singapore.... oh, if I had only known how sweet that was at the time...

As for your complaint with collars, it is MTM company we're dealing with after all... Can't you email them and specify/clarify your request with them so they can make the shirts that you like and want???

I've seem people on styleforum waiting for 8 weeks for their MTM shirts and I really respect their patience. Personally, I find moderntailor to beresponsive to my request and make the changes I request to my satisfaction. Delivery time, quality, price and responsiveness to my request is why I think they are the best in the business...

I got my first MTM shirt. I am no longer a styleforum virgin!!! I ordered it from moderntailor.com on the 6th and it arrived today the 15th. I only ordered one shirt in the cheapest white fabric to get the sizing right if there were any problems. I entered the measurements from a shirt that fits me really well and altered the measurements to what I thought would be a better fit. I have to say that moderntailor did a A+ job following my measurements.
I had them put two darts in the back and I told them my waist size was 2" smaller than it really is but the back is still a bit poofy for my tastes. The front of the shirt feels fine and I may take out another inch in the chest on my next order to alleviate the poof in the back. Overall I am extremely happy with my first MTM experience and will do it again.
I am really happy about the neck as I need a 15 3/4" to be comfortable. They nailed it spot on. Not too tight and not too loose.

It will shrink up a bit but I think I still have plenty of room for that. Please critique the fit and and let me know what if anything I need to change on my next order which will be with better fabric and more than one shirt.
I also spoiled myself with a silk/cashmere tie since I was so happy that the fit on my first MTM shirt turned out so well.

My seconde BD collar has eadge stiching + purple buttonholes thread (+$5 for each special requirments)
