yeah, i was thinking the same; the $199 fabrics seem to be the best patterns that they have.

honestly, their lack of options leave a lot to be desired. i just ordered two shirts at a department store in japan, with much more options and better tailoring, at around $120 (just simple patterns, however. the good stuff was burberry, aquascutum, etc; i went for house fabric which was on sale).

i am interested in ordering a shirt from these guys, but i don't think it's worth it if the total amounts to over $55, as the best you can do on there is way too generic. i can get a shirt from my friend's shop at that price, which beats these designs in just about every way (except the shoulders, as i have very broad shoulders...)

I dont know where you sourced your information from however hey do offer the following range of cuffs and backs: Round cut Cut corner Square Convertible French square (Button-less) French round (Button-less) There is also the option to make the cuffs white i.e contrast. The following backs available are: Plain \t Darts \t Side pleats Box pleats

MTM shirts/suits are not for everyone. It does take a bit of experiment and tweaking to get it perfect but the benefit is that you can buy shirts exactly the way you like it every time after get nail down the style, fit and fabric. The way I look at it, I'm establish a lifetime relationship with a business that can deliver what I want at a reasonable price. There are so many options and choices that goes into a shirts design it's impossible to make all the options available for people to choose from and to satisfy everybody's need. I just send them photo of the shirts and the designed I liked even though the option was not listed on the website, and that worked out well for me.

I aggree to some extent but I wonder if this apologises too much for the tailor.

I have a $20 coupon for MT and was planning on using it for a shirt - total cost with shipping minus $20 would be like just under $50 or something.

But from what I've seen on this thread even $50 would me too much for a mtm shirt that the tailor is not doing right, unless the posters are really fugging up their measurements.

As long as MT gives me a shirt that measures 25p2p, 20-21 across shoulders, and a BD that is no more than 2.5 inches to the point, there should be no problem, BUT I'm not convinced that they are capable of doing it, for whatever reason.

I suggest taking measurements from one of your own shirts (more than shoulders and pit to pit), tell them how you like your button down and if you believe they haven't made the order correctly, notify them and they will ask you what sort of compensation you want to see. They have excellent customer service.

Moderntailor is in the business of MTM. If they don't manage to make their clothe to their customer's specification, they wouldn't be in business for very long. The sizing issue relates, in my opinion, mostly to difference in how measure is taken as supposed to how it should be taken as well as individual style/taste difference in how they want the clothe to fit...

Last night I went to Modern Tailors website and noticed that the "Live Chat" was available. I chatted with Emerson who gave me a very interesting bit of information. I explained that I would like to see a larger selection of collars. He said to pick the closest collar to my liking then enter the exact measurements in the notes section and they would make the collar to my satisfaction. In other words, I could select the "cutaway" collar, then give measurements to reduced the height, decrease the length of the collar points and increase the spread. He is checking to see if they will make replacement collars for the two shirts I ordered. I will keep you posted on the results.

I have e-mailed a few times with modern tailor and they said that as long as notes are put on the order they wil adjust colars and points. They wil also add extra to the sleeve opening for watches also.

maybe it's different for cheaper fabrics???

i know exactly what i want in a shirt and have for a few years...
i suppose my rant came from a bias--for years i have gotten shirts from my friend's shop, which are the exact style that i want, in wonderful colors/patterns/fabrics (comparable to the $199 stuff on that site), but, as previously mentioned, i am slim with broad shoulders...so sizing has always been an issue.
as for made to measure, i have a few, and i wear them often with suits, but i ordered them from tailors or department stores here, as i mentioned, so i could discuss all options with the sales clerk or tailor.

I've ordered both cheap and decently priced shirts from MT and they both have most of those options listed above, I should note that the back pleat selection halves when slim fit is selected.
