Anybody going to pick this up in a few days or are following discussions on how it sounds compared to the old mixes?

There's over 19 consecutive threads at 50 pages each (that's 950 thread pages!), over at SteveHoffman.tv forums discussing it.

The mono box set ("purist") is limited to 10,000 units, but apparently only includes 10 albums vs. the stereo box set.

I was interested in this. Was the price for the stereo version ever announced? Edit: nevermind, just found it - $259.98 MSRP.

Not sure about the MSRP in USD, but it's $230 CAD for the stereo with 13 studio albums. The mono ox set with 11 albums is $260 CAD

As soon as I find a massive sale on this I'll be picking up at least 2 or 3 as gifts and one for myself. I figure I'll be able to find it for about 1/2 off around Christmas so I'm in no hurry. Now if they'd release a nice remastered Stones box set I'd be set.

i will pick it up black friday at best buy.

no point in getting in a huff now, as its bound to be on sale in 2-3 months.

or i'll wait. i have seen the antology for 12 bucks at used record stores. they are gonna press the shit out stereo version just like they did 27. plus its capitol so they'll milk this reissue as long as possible.

Some time in the '80s my father bought the entire set of "Original Master Recordings" on vinyl. They were supposedly all pressed directly from the master reel-to-reel tapes. I have no idea what it cost, but apparently it was a lot. I assume he still has it.

As I recall, they sounded amazing. I taped them all on expensive metal cassettes and played them to death.

I doubt I will get the remastered, however, as I have all the albums on CD and don't want to buy them again and, in any case, I doubt I would care much about the difference today anyway.

How much difference is their between remastered versions, and 320kbps mp3's? Is the difference really that noticeable?

I've been waiting for this for almost a decade now.

These are the Mobile Fidelity pressings. They sound okay but the original British vinyl is much better. MFSLs go for good money however.

If you are talking the new CDs and MP3s then the difference is significant.

Another cool listen for Beatles fanatics is the 5.1 mix of Love on DVD, split into individual mono tracks. Quite interesting hearing only the vocals of certain songs. Got to hear some remastered tracks from Rubber Soul and Revolver. Really an improvement - much more transparent and better bass. Vocal doubletracking is much more noticeable. Sounds like they reprocessed the reverb on many vocal tracks. They also didn't crank up the treble like so many remastering projects tend to do, everything sounds warm and pleasant. OMG, "Tomorrow Never Knows" sounds tremendous. Same with "Lovely Rita". Gotta hand it to George Martin and Geoff Emerick for doing such a great job recording the material to begin with. I'm definitely buying this. The only bummer with the new remasters is already having heard every song hundreds and hundreds of times since I was a kid.

The Love 5.1 mix is incredible.

I'm downloading this in FLAC right now and I'm very anxious to hear the difference. Has anyone else given this a listen yet?

I am really tempted to buy this set. I find a dose of Beatles perfect now and then when driving in the car on a long trip or to mix one into the background of a party. Even my son is saying that he now appreciates their music on a new level. The stuff is timeless.

I did a shootout today and while the British LP still wins, the 2009 remasters are very close to that sound and much better than my Black Triangle CD from Japan and the 1987 remaster. They appear to have gotten close to the master tape sound. The winners on our system were first the British LP, the 2009 remaster, then MFSL. We used a Benz Ruby cartridge on a Linn LP12 turntable and for CD a fine transport with a Benchmark DAC1 Pre, both to Musical Fidelity A5 integrated amp and Usher Tiny Dancer monitors (beryllium tweeters) and REL T2 Sub.
