I keep coming back to oscar. I can't get over the tone, the virtuosity, the sheer happiness that is his playing. Nothing lifts my spirits more than an Oscar track. Please poast if you appreciate this god of jazz.

Ok, I'll post, since I'm a sucker for your jazz piano threads, Conne. Oscar was truly amazing. I had the good fortune of catching his last Yoshi's show in Oakland. I love his joyous playing and command. I especially like the stuff from his 50-60s trios, but this later performance is pretty amazing: The Theme

Ed Thigpen! I like the records with him on drums, particularly the stuff with Clark Terry too. Honestly, I've always kind of held a little grudge against Mr. Peterson because of the negative things he said about Thelonious Monk. There's no doubt he was a great pianist, though.

See if you can find Peterson's Coffee-Mate commercial. That was something.

Years ago, I saw Oscar play solo as an opening act for McCoy Tyner. A lot of the older listeners who came to hear Oscar walked out on McCoy. I thought they were both great in their own unique way.

Agreed, I keep kicking myself for not seeing Oscar play live at the Toronto International Jazz Festival, considering we was not a well man, Oscar could still play a mean piano during his last years. I prefer his earlier work on Verve, there is a certain quality you can't get with today's performers. If you can find it check out Live at the Stratford Shakespearean Festival from the mid 1950s.

I love Oscar though I give him a strong 3# with Duke being numeral uno.

In a class by himself. Sorely missed.

The Trio's London Concert is something else. "It's A Wonderful World" is a great romp. As usual, never a wrong note from Mr. Peterson himself.

How favorably does Conne rate Keith Jarrett?
