I'm sure Thracozoag, that you have heard of them or listened to them at some point, but I thought you might appreciate the band Muse, whose pianist is also quite good. Check out "butterflies and hurricanes" where he samples Rachmaninoff. Edit: Also "Space Dementia" which is themed around Rach.
I listened to the Tchaikovsky with my mouth agape -- three times.
Thanks for posting these, Koji. You're truly amazing.
Strangely enough, I first became familiar with that piece listening to a rare recording of Keith Emerson playing live at the Filmore with the Nice, the band he was with before he gained renown with Emerson, Lake, & Palmer in the '70s. Imagine that piece played on a Hammond B3 organ through Leslie speakers and backed by drums and bass, and you begin to get an idea.
If you're game to take requests, Liszt's Funerailles would be my top choice.
Very cool, thanks for sharing! I used to play (obviously, I was not as good as you), I haven't touched a piano much since I got out of college... One of these days I'd get myself a Steinway or Bosendorfer... One of these days I'll encoding the tape of my junior recital and post it on YouTube, hehe, great idea...
