Hello! I'm taking a class at the uni called Music and Film. Two of my projects require me to analyze the role of music in films. I need one pre-1970 and one post-1970. Since I'm young I'm going to need help from you movie buffs and old-timers on some reccomendations to watch. - kelvin

I cannot think of a better subject than Godard's Le Mépris (Contempt) for such a project.

Post-1970, I would personally pick Kitano's Hana Bi or Sonatine

Danny Elfman always has cool scores though his style rarely deviates from film to film. Notables being Edward Scissorhands, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Scrooged, Beetlejuice.

For recent films I think The Fountain has the coolest score - experimental yet quite melodic. Think it's by The Kronos Quartet. Same guys that did Requiem for a Dream's score, another cool Aronofsky film.
