Two months ago, I held my friend's hand as he died of liver failure in hospice care. He was 38. I knew him for 24 years. He had always liked to drink, but he didn't ever slow down as he got older. I could barely stand to be around him for the last five years or so. It was not a pretty sight when he died.

I'm just putting this here to add to the discussion. I think a lot of guys binge drink frequently in their 20's and then turn the corner. If you're coming up on 30- maybe a temperance strategy is in order.

According to professionals quoted in this article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/8172982.stm Risk starts when you go over 4 drinks a day. I've cut back hard lately, and have been amazed at the tolerance I had built up.
