Cowboy Boots As A Fashion Statement

I have noticed more and more guys wearing cowboy boots lately in an urban setting. Most do not go the whole "western route" with the hats and big buckles. I personally like the look and tend to wear well fitted jeans with a pressed shirt. The boots I prefer have extremely pointed toes and a 2.5" underslung heel. To me the look is extremely masculine. These guys take care of themselves, walk into a restaurant, coffee shop, etc. and expect people to be checking them out, men and women. They KNOW they look good and are proud of it. But not too concieted though. Just proud of their looks. I would appreciate others' feedback on cowboy boots as a fashion statement.

I've tried not to have any real "donts" when it comes to fashion, some people can pull anything off, and that would probably include cowboy boots. Hell, I know when I wore a pair for a mascerade once, never been taller and had a tighter ass Trouble is that most people I see wearing them around here are the wannabe cowboy with the full gear, so it's hard to tell. Please post a picture of an entire outfit if you see one and it would be easier to tell.

I think, if you wear coboy boots, you probably pull a LOT off – if you know what I mean...

I saw a girl wearing cowbow boots and a skirt the other day walking to class. She was not attractive.

Boots are so out maybe they are in again. They never go away for long. Where else can you get elevators in your shoes and not feel like your a total fake.

To me, this is exactly the type of person who looks ridiculous in cowboy boots.

Cowboy boots generally look good on people who (i) work outdoors and wear boots at work (or at least have had that type of job at some point in their lives) or (ii) live in a rural area where boots are practical because the wearer has to walk through dirt and weeds on a regular basis. These people wear their boots in other contexts (like out to a bar or coffee shop) because the boots they own are comfortable, well made footwear, and they feel comfortable in them because they wear them all the time, like urban kids feel comfortable in their sneakers.

People who wear cowboy boots to achieve a "look" (as opposed to people I describe above who more or less live in their boots) generally fail because they look too self conscious and uncomfortable in few instances in which they wear their boot--i.e., they look like posers.

I tend to dislike boots with a super high and under slung heel because these boots are a nightmare to walk in (forget about running). This can exacerbate the issue of the wearer looking like a poser. It's a boot made to interact with a stirrup, and we all know the wearer didn't just ride in on his horse, so it can also appear kind of affected. Ropers tend to look less affected because they are made for walking, though not as good for the short guy trying to gain a couple of inches.

2.5 inches...masculine?? Those look like Prince's boots.

They are classic Americana, as much as any work or preppy clothing.

There are so many variations on them that it is hard to categorize them as simply cowboy boots. Some are plain and others quite costumy.

Personally I think most guys look good in them when they are fairly simple. I wore a pair of Tony Lama's for years but decided I was more comfortable in other styles. But I kept them for horseback riding and stepping on cockroaches in corners.

My dad wears them and pulls them off pretty well I would say. Can they qualify as Sprezz?

Best advice yet. I used to wear them a lot. I now recall that fact with considerable embarrassment.

Urban cowboys?

Heaps of these boots for sale in NZ at the moment, lots of second-hand ones being imported, especially for chicks. I think they're fine for urban blokes if you have the right build and look. The cuban heel makes them hard to walk in, and effectively shortens your leg when walking cos you have further to go to bring your heel down. This gives that slightly awkward gait, unless you a tall and lanky, and swagger a lot. If you have short legs and/or of cuddly proportions avoid these, because they will just accentuate your shortness (and you'll clump around like a girl in stripper heels). Chelsey boots would be a better option, like RM Williams.

Agree with all this.

One other thought, don't wear mom jeans... needs a straight-ish leg, snug around the hips.

I like the cowboy boots look with a suit. I think it can look sharp, as long as you dont look like youre trying too hard.
