The openers left me confused. Questions:

1. Is Ok State that good or is UGA that bad? I'm leaning toward the "UGA is worse than expected" theory. The defense just looked bad.

2. Is Bama good or is VaTech worse than usual? I'm leaning toward "a little of both." The Bama QB did better than I expected, but VaTech coaches must be guilty of some crime for wasting Tyrod Taylor's talent like that. Lets see, your no. 1 RB is out, you have a super athletic QB, what do you do? If you answered "let's turn him into a drop back passer and hand off to a bunch of underclassmen" you could be on Frank Beamer's staff. Also, the Va Tech defense looked REALLY undisciplined - a lot of those long Mark Ingram runs were caused because the outside LB and CB refused to mind their gaps.

3. Is Tennessee actually g ood? My answer: I don't think so. They played a team that got owned by Kentucky last year, then lost a lot of their "talent" to graduation. They fumbled like crazy. Who the hell knows though - these opening games against the Sisters of the Poor tell you nothing - see also, the Florida, Nebraska, and Michigan games.

4. Is Washington better than expected, or is LSU worse? I'm going with "both." UW's best two players were hurt last year, and they both showed up big in this game. On the other hand, what is with Les Miles? He has more talent than anyone, year after year, but once again everyone on defense looks a step slow. What's the deal???

5. Is ND good this year? I think so. More telling than the gaudy offensive outburst against a shitty defensive team, they held the potent Nevada offense scoreless. They have a shit schedule until USC (unless Michigan is actually good) - they might only lose one game this year.

The Cavalier lost got a huge laugh out of me.

I think Bama is good, and VT is typical. As for ND, I'll have to see what happens next week because I think Michigan is good this year.

Rocky Top, you'll always be home sweet home to meeeee Good ole Rocky Top Rocky Top Tennessee Never gets old. Never. I felt good about the game yesterday, but it doesn't really mean anything. I hope we do well in Kiffin year 1, but if not I'll still be bleeding orange.

1. UGA isnt as good as hoped is my gathering (im SEC all the way, go gators!) but UGA may be more hype than anything

2. Call me crazy but I thought even last year that Bama wasnt as good as everyone thought, and this year I'm still sticking to my guns, very overrated to me.

3. Tennessee is better than last year by far, but good? We'll have to see how they do vs UCLA, if they beat UCLA by 3 scores then I believe they'll have a 8win season, worst they can do is a 6win season I feel (I live in knoxville and HATE Kiffin and the vols)

4. That Huskie team showed heart to me, LSU has always been a top team. I just think LSU came in overconfident, first game jitters, and it was 9:30pm their time to play.

5. No, not yet anyways I feel that Phil Fulmer (ex vol coach) will either be there or Michigan
coaching next year which ever one has a worse year imo

In defense of Bama, I was at that game, and VT had great special teams play. AL penalties helped VT score their two offensive touchdowns. AL's coaching staff stresses conditioning, and the VT defense was worn out by the 4th quarter. Coach Saban's motto rings true: "Make their asses quit!"

The problem with that theory is that UCLA looks like dog shit again this year. Just cause his majesty Sir Rick is the coach, that doesn't mean they're good. I expect UT to win big, then come into the UF game with over-inflated expectations, only to get absolutely destroyed by UF. I feel the same way about Kiffin. What a douche. Sticks his foot in his mouth and then says "oh, I meant to do that, all part of the plan." My kid doesn't even lie like that. He's made Al Davis look sane. That said, I'd be happy with him if I was a UT fan because he can clearly recruit. Even if he can't coach a lick and loses a bunch of games, the next coach will have a stocked team like Meyer at UF following Ron Zook. I can't believe Saban stresses conditioning more than Foster, VT's long-time defensive coordinator. I think VT just isn't as good as usual on defense (they seem slow and undersized) this year. Also, they are badly misusing Tyrod Taylor - the kid is not a pure drop-back passer. He runs a 4.4 40, he was the no.1 dual threat QB in the country as a recruit, and he's not running? They really need a new offensive coordinator at VT who will pull them out of the stone age. I know VT fans thing a 7-3 win is a good game, but that isn't going to fly in this brave new world. Bama's new QB was better than I expected. He threw a nice deep pass, didn't get rattled easily, and generally did what he was supposed to do. After watching Mississippi yesterday, I'm convinced Bama is the team to beat in the SEC West.

I guess their 12-0 regular season play record is what draws you that conclusion. AL only lost to FL in the SEC Championship game, and AL was playing without two Senior starters (All American Left Tackle - Andre Smith and starting Left Guard - Mike Johnson). A weak left side is what killed Bama, and there was no one left to stop Tebow.

I am no huge fan, but I am not a hater or a jock sniffer either. Call a spade a spade. Just because a team does not win by blowing out the competition is no justification to disparage a highly ranked and winning team. Bama did not have ugly wins and they don't give up. They won many games in the 4th quarter after trading scores in the preceding 3 quarters. Blowouts occur all too often against schools who really shouldn't be playing football against a nationally ranked Div. IA team.

Like I said, I think they were overrated last year, plus fact is they lost the SEC championship game and their bowl game, so I'll stick with my conclusion. Also good teams will get blewout by better teams on occasion, and I'll think we'll see a few games like that this year. again just my opinion, which means nothing

i am still hungover. the tide looks solid and i have hope for the new QB. he looks like he'll be pretty good once the nerves settle. i'm really glad jonathan taylor thomas graduated. horns/gaytors BCS bowl.
