Singapore officially a third world country, well according to Fox news anyway

Hi all

I know this is a little off topic but I thought it was worth discussing

I was watching Fox news the other night (i know Fox is about the worst thing to watch but I watch to listen to their bullshit), anyway they had some old Jewish doctor on their going to about medical tourism to Asia and he was saying many Americans are now travelling to third world countries like Singapore.

Jeez, do the people at Fox even know where Singapore is or anything about the place. He then went on to say that 1,000,000 medical tourists had been treated there last year (I think he actually said Americans), there is no way in a million years does Singapore even perform 1,000,000 surgeries a year to their own people let alone to a million medical tourists, even more no way is it possible that 1,000,000 Americans went there for treatment.

Surely one of the other presenters could weigh in and say, hold on a second this can't be right or maybe their bullshit detectors were turned off.

I was there a few years ago and received some great "medical treatment". Don't remember her or her friend's names unfortunately. Some of the best "physical therapy" in Asia. Too bad my health insurance did not cover it.

Yes, yes, come to Singapore, a little back-water town in South-eastern China, where we will replace your kidney and do lasik surgery in our backalleys.

1 million tourists every year is about right, not 1 million medical tourists.

(it IS wikipedia) Singapore: #4 Canada: #8 France: #9 Norway: #24 UK: #36 Bosnia (yes, Bosnia): #43 . . . . . . . . . United States: #50 So tell me....by those stats, who's the 3rd world country? Maybe those medical tourists from the US know what they're doing after all...

consider the source. the FOX news channel interviewing some old azzed crogey doctor. its true of other countries of course offering cheaper procedures (I've assisted in a bunch of kidney transplants that would otherwise cost over 10x the amount in the US).

its all about scaring away potential customers (which from what FOX news likes to do is scare the uninformed) deeming anything other than US 3rd world.

the numbers don't lie if india/philippines/thailand/and 1st world singapore are offering the same thing for cheaper/or cheap enough even those with totally socialized medicine (UK Canada ect) will do it wether it be breast augmentations or heart valve replacements.

honestly though i have no idea how much cheaper its getting because even in asia the doctors are getting obscenely rich off of this.

That is because Fox is a 3rd class TV station... Think you are too bored to watch that station.

LOL...

Singapore has some very conservative rules on corporal punishment and some interesting laws (public spitting and gum chewing) but Third World. Mostly populated by yellow/mocha/brown folk so it must be a Third World country. LOL!!!!

I guess third world is where it's at.. I find Singapore one of the most civilized places on earth.. if that's 3rd world, sign me up
