art/posters/etc for dorm room?

could anybody offer the name of a good website or give me some ideas about where i'd be able to find some tasteful decor? all i've found so far is hackneyed crap like the great wave, the scream, starry night, you get the picture.

in my efforts to find a poster, i came across this masterpiece:

Forget any art that you can buy in a poster shop/Target/Costco, etc.....


Get something unique.

How about finding a vintage flag, military, British union jack, old nautical flags, maybe your state flag. But try and get one made out of cotton from pre-1975 that will have character.

Or, have friend paint you a painting. Something abstract.

or, go to a flea market and find some old painting or B&W photo that you think is cool.

^good stuff, but no panacea for my decoration woes. instant gratification plz. come to think of it, i could probably get some decent stuff at moma or the met's website..

Not sure what you're looking for exactly but you could check this blog or this forum, there's some great art prints/gigs posters to find by a lot of independent artists. The selection is pretty diversified. You can generally buy the prints directly from the artists websites and they're usually limited to small numbers sets so there's that 'unique' aspect.

www.allposters.com has a lot of stuff. I have gotten some interesting stuff like an poster sized blowup of at TinTin comic book cover that I framed that I had in my law school apartment.

Etsy.com has cool handmade art work and photo prints as well.
