Cat Story

My parents moved to Florida about four years ago and took our two cats with them. The oldest one at the time was 13. He had been an outside cat in Kentucky, but as he was starting to get older they started keeping him inside more often. About a year after they'd been in Florida the oldest cat got out and never came back. We assumed he'd been eaten by an alligator or some other predator. Anyhow, my parents got a call yesterday that our cat had been found. He was scheduled to be euthanised, but several hours before they were to do it they scanned him and found his microchip. My parents went to the shelter to check it out and, sure enough, it was him. Pretty cool deal. I look forward to seeing him.

So this cat is 17 years old? (!?)

How long did they have the cat? They usually scan immediately and contact the owners ASAP. Weird, but I'm glad you have your cat back.

Awesome, great story.

Was there a bulldog and a wise, aging Golden Retriever with the cat. 'Cause that would be, like, really cool! Especially if the three animals had traveled a really long distance trying to get home. Or maybe they were on their way from Florida back to Kentucky!

When did people start putting microchips in cats? This is totally new to me.

First I heard of it was about 7 years ago, but I'm sure it was probably before that.

We had to chip the RJ cat when I moved to France. Prior to that, they used to tattoo them in the ear.

My dog had a tat on her inner thigh. Looked interesting but useless. Appeared to be a ying yang symbol. Couldn't really make it out. I don't get the story. Did the cat make it back to Kentucky?

Yep, and maybe even horses or valuable animals. The implant is only the size of a rice grain, so they could probably do it to people as well and use it as a layer of biometrics.
