Buying iPhone@ATT vs buying iPhone@Apple Store

Now on verge of buying iPhone 3GS.

Have been told that it's better to get the phone from Apple than to get the phone from ATT.

Is there a difference in service plan options? Something else?

No difference at all. The only advantage of buying from Apple is that they seem a little faster & smoother with the activation process - you'll be out of there in 30 not 45 minutes.

The guy at the AT&T store didn't know what he was talking about in regard to AppleCare. He said I had a week to buy it, but in reality, you have the full first year. Not sure if they can do this at the Apple Store, but the AT&T guy migrated all of my contacts over from my Verizon Motorola.

I've heard you can buy it in eBay for cheaper. Not sure how that works but perhaps read around on the web a bit to look into it.

Is it worth the extra $100 for the 3gs?

You can. I saved about $80 getting it for an iMac I bought as a gift. Double check the sellers though as there are some shady dealers out there.

Honestly the apple store was to packed and would have taken for ever to get mine. So I ordered mine on ATT.com and did it all from home.

Yep. It really is a marked difference. Plus, you get the compass which allows you to tap full GPS functionality. If you're not in a hurry, they're supposed to be coming out with an 8GB 3GS towards the end of the year.

Do anything the stay away from an Apple store. I can't think of a worse place to be.

This.

I walked into an apple store and saw a lineup of dozens. Walked to the ATT store next door and it was mostly empty. In and out in 30 minutes or so.

or take a girl that has a live in boyfriend out to a fancy dinner unless you are fine providing (expensive) sustenance to her and her boyfriend for their sweaty, hours long, rancid, no holes barred, sexcapades and your "thanks" is a kiss on the cheek and a "you're a great friend!" at the end of the dinner.
