Anyone Use VRBO.com?

My girlfriend and I were thinking about renting an apartment in NYC for a long weekend vacation we're planning on taking later this year. Anyone have experience with VRBO.com? It looks like we can rent a small apartment for close to the same price as a decent hotel.

Used it several times for us and for parents visiting us in NYC

Cool. I assume it works out well? Any neighborhoods or properties you'd suggest. Any neighborhoods to stay away from? I was looking in the East/West Village areas. My buddy suggested Greenwich Village, Chelsea, Tribeca, Soho, Nolita. I've never been to NYC so I have no idea if these neighborhoods are cool. Any other feedback on VRBO is welcome too.

Worked out very well so far. Have a long weekend coming over Labor Day in another VRBO-found house - we'll see if I'm still 100%.

All these neighborhoods are fine - some will be expensive. The EV can be hit or miss, depending on the area and buildings. That's of course true for every hood but moreso for the EV IMO. You can add Union Square and Gramercy to your list.

I think the key is too ask for many pictures of the property and building, and ask all the questions you can think of. Better even is to send someone to look at the apt if you have friends who could do that.

My cousins have a beach house next to my mother's and they use it to rent out there place near Newport. Seems pretty effective- they generally are able to book the place out through the whole summer. Generally the renters seem like nice, chill people-- I have talked to a few of them and it seems like a good arrangement.

I have not used it but I know of people that have and their experiences have all been positive.
