Because Rogers is **** and won't sell you an iphone outright, and doesn't have the 3gs in stock and can't say when it will be in stock, I went to a small store that I knew through a friend (and where I originally bought my Razr) and paid cash for it ($775 with taxes). Now I paid cash b/c my mother had just repaid me for money I lent her for her dog's operation about a year ago, but I'm starting to think I should have paid with my credit card and banked the cash...
When I went in to the store I asked the guy if they had any iPhone 3GS in stock. He said ya, but they only had the 32GB phones left. I said "ok i'll take one." The guy (pretty sure he's the owner) took my money, gave me an invoice, stamped it paid cash, and then told me my phone would be in later that night or the next day at the latest. I was surprised because I had been given the impression they actually had them in stock, but if it was gonna get in by the next day, I figured whatever. I'd bought from them before and I just assumed they were gonna have someone run a phone over from their other store.
That was last friday. I went in on Monday and the same guy said "sorry, we haven't forgotten about you. There was a problem with the last phone we had in stock, but there's an order coming in tomorrow (yesterday)." Anyway, the day is almost over and I still don't have the phone yet.
In the meantime I heard something about the store that's made me a little nervous. Someone I know used to buy iPhones from the store to send to customers as thank you gifts. One day, after he had paid, he sent someone down to pick-up the phones and the store was closed (for good). Then it reopened later, but the new management/owner or whatever never gave them the phones and they didn't get their money back afaik. Apparently there was a rift between the original partners and they split-up and each kept one store.
For all I know the place is going out of business and the owner is just trying to pocket as much as possible before he closes down by selling a phone that's very desired but hard to get in canada right now. If I'm operating under the assumption that I'm being screwed here, how should I approach it since they already have my money? What should I do if they were to refuse a refund? The owner has already made promises twice about when it would be in and so I'm either being stroked or lied to.
Ideas?
