this is the key right here. half the jerkoffs on sf are wondering what glasses or tie he's wearing but this is the point.

I like, don't love MM. I like the look back into prior period norms, such as drinking and smoking in your office. I enjoy the peak lapels on some suits. The story lines are semi-interesting and I love the prominent place CC has in the show.

However, I fail to connect with any character and think the back story on DD is weak. DD is a borderline sociopath, which I actually enjoy watching, but none of the characters are verly likable. It's more entertaining in the way of listening to your dysfuncational neighbors yell at each other.

Have watched the whole 1st season, starting on season 2. I like it, but am not blown away. It's just okay. There just isn't enough there. Very few of the characters are really likable, and the performances are inconsistent. This is particularly problematic because it's a show that HAS to be character-driven; the storylines simply aren't that interesting. I could not care less about the housewives having difficulty with their daily routine. Office politics are only slightly more interesting. The accounts Sterling & Cooper are dealing with are not at the forefront of the show and it's hard to get worked up over whether they land X or Y client in any case. It's a show about not much. That being said it is very nicely realized in terms of atmosphere and some of the characters are starting to become a bit more interesting at the beginning of season 2, including Don and Peggy, neither of whom have impressed me overmuch thus far. Honestly I think Roger Sterling is the most sympathetic character in the show; unfortunately he's secondary.

Oh, and Vincent Kartheiser is the most "I want to beat the crap out of you just from looking at you" guy ever. I realize he's supposed to be like that, but... Jesus. I cannot sympathize at all with Pete Campbell.

I've never seen it. I actually was considering trying to see all the episodes last weekend, but I trimmed my nose hairs instead.

Greg,

I think if you just view one episode mid-stream, you are likely missing much of the relevance of the storyline and dialogue.

If you rent Season 1 and watch the first few episodes then you might appreciate more.

I told myself I wouldnt watch it but decided to watch the first disc of season 1 from netflix. Sure enough I was hooked and went out and bought season 1 and 2. I like it for the story not the dress which is well done but not what turns me on to it. Its one of the best shows currently on television imo. Beats Entourage which has gone to hell in a hand basket.

Never saw it, but considering that 99% of shows are trash, it is probably trash.

Shows that are not trash from the last decade:
-CYE
-Arrested D
-Futurama
-The Wire (haven't seen it, but people I respect like it)

Entourage is complete trash. But I watch it because I got used to watching it. At least I can admit it is trash though.

never seen it. don't even know what channel it's on. i assume it's not on network tv, which would pretty much rule me out anyways (no cable).

i sort of wonder if i'm missing something but the fanatacism it inspires is making me sort of hate it without ever even knowing anything about it.

My guess is the very well done 60s sets and clothing set some hearts aflutter here on the StyleForum.

Nevertheless, it is a very well written show imho and well worth our time.

I tried to watch it and found it boring. The show is ok just not for me I guess. What isnt ok is the fact that grown straight (?) men here get all queer-o-sexual when they see this Draper guy. Ugh

Entourage is trash but its only like 24 minutes or something and the season is like 10 episodes. I can handle that. What I cant handle is hour long bore sessions that require a real commitment to watching.

Entourage may be trash, but its the quick, fun kind of trash.

Yeah, certainly more tolerable than trash that takes itself seriously.
