Would you have been a Federalist or a Republican?! - Page 2

I'm generally a conservative, but the Democratic Republicans were a party of backwards agrarians. Consider me a Federalist - Hamilton's economic policy was leaps and bounds superior to Jefferson's.

Both these factions have proven correct in their own ways. Jefferson's paranoia of an encroaching Federal government was prescient. If Hamilton's ideas were followed to their original intent, however, the need for a bill of rights wouldn't have been necessary. He, in fact, argued against its necessity, stating that the Federal government would not be strong enough to abscond with said rights. Naive, surely.

Clarification: I'd have been a Federalist.

Screw the Jeffersonians; I'd be an Anti-Federalist!

Wasn't Jefferson and anti-federalist himself?

If I was alive during this time, either distinction would have been lost on me.

No, the Anti-Federalists opposed the Constitution. They wished to remain with the Articles of Confederation. Patrick Henry is probably the most well known Anti-Federalist. Also, Samuel Adams of later beer fame.

Ok. I now see what you meant by "Screw the Jeffersonians." I thought you meant you disagreed entirely with the Jeffersonians. You meant you're even farther from the Federalists than the Jeffersonians and in line with the Anti-Federalists.

Edit: You're not the one that said that. I assume that's what Ludeykrus meant.

Actually, I'm a different a poster, and Hamilton is something of a hero to me. I just wanted to clear that little bit up. The factions back then get confusing. edit: posted before lbcgav's edit.

Yeah, I caught that a little later and corrected my post.

Since I am, were, would have been, and are, a Southern agrarian, there is no doubt I would have been a Jeffersonian.

However, in hind-sight, Jefferson's way would have kept the US as a backwater, as industry was clearly the way forward in the world.
