There was an article (I want to say it was in The Economist) sometime last year about how Mexico is trying to promote Tequila distillery tours, much the same way that Scotland has Scotch distillery tours. Apparently there are something like 300 distilleries in Mexico, some of which are very artisinal and never export. These are supposed to be where the best sipping tequilas are to be found. Since I've never been on one of these tours the best tequila I have personally had has been Penca Azul, and while much smoother than say Patron Silver, it was still tequila. So while in theory I know that tequila can be sipped and savored like other high quality spirits, my gut reaction is still, "Get that shit away from me".
