Hey, I was looking around for a pair of APC's and i ran across a pair on the net. It says they are washed indigo. I don't have any expirience with selvege denim, so would these be a good pair to start out with? Will they fade well even if they are washed? any help is appreciated...
Here are some pics..

Those are some funky, overdyed blue rinse. They won't look or wear at all like a raw or even normal "washed" or "one-rinse" jean. I'd stay away from those unless you are going for that specific look.

It may be just the photos, but those don't even look like denim....

But, APC New Standards, as long as APC doesn't produce the New Standard cut in different materials, are an excellent selvage denim to start out with.

Just make sure that when you buy them you clarify that they are indeed selvage denim, I think they may have made some "denim chino" type thing.

From a distance the color can pass for dress pants.

Also judging from the color, they have been washed heavily and would have lost much of the stiffness to break them in.

Alright. Thanks for the help.
I thought they looked a little off, but since I have no expirience with APC, I thought it might just have been wierd pictures or something. I'll keep looking for some decent ones in my price range....

Yeah, tell Mauro that you were referred to him by Styleforum, and it's $120, shipping included, I believe.

Yea, I had seen that deal advertised here in another thread. Do you guys have any recommendations for dark, dry selvedge jeans in a 36 X 36?? Does anyone make that size other then levi's? I'm fairly tall (6'6") and I think the inseam would have to be about 34 at the least, after shrinking. Again, I'm new to this selvedge denim think, so my assumptions might be wrong about sizing..
So, does anybody know of a brand I should look into, or have any gently used ones that fit my criteria they want to sell?
Thanks again for any help..

Sugarcanes won't work since they will shrink to a 34". Try Buzz Rickson's -- they run longer.

You should also be able to get them from a custom program like Earnest Sewn's in NYC.

Uniqlo selvage shuttle denim goes up to at least 36" waist and the inseam is about 38" after two washes. I don't know if the dry dark is available in the US stores, or for that matter even in the Japan stores anymore.

Best part is they are only ~$50-60 last time I heard.

Don't buy those APC. They're some weird denim stretching fabric, not a New Standard selvedge denim by any means. I tried them on in a store and I looked like I was wearing spandex.

AFAIK they don't yet take web orders, however you may be able to persuade someone to get you a pair from one of the New Jersey stores, or even one of the Japan stores. You could call one of the stores to check availability and whether they might mail you a pair:
