I told him I had a 14.5" neck, and that he probably had around a 16". I'm pretty sure he just got caught making a dumb mistake and was unwilling to back down. He also admitted that his wife purchases all of his clothes and that he doesn't know how to match his ties to his shirts. I wouldn't have minded, but he kept trying to imply that I was freakishly tiny since normal men have a "size 33" neck. I am freakishly tiny, but only by a few inches, not by 15. And as for the "half the waist" formula, it happens to be fairly accurate in my case: 14.5" neck and 30" waist. I suspect this only really works if you aren't overweight. I have fluctuated pant sizes over the years, but never neck sizes. Right now I have a bit of a gut, and if I shed a few pounds would probably fit comfortably in a 29.
