One (non-tourist) Day in NYC - What to Do?

Due to a number of factors (mainly I finished some project early) - I have a completely free week day to do whatever I want to in NYC this week.

Most friends will be at work - so it's me solo, doing whatever I want.

What would be your day in NYC? What suggestions and/or schedule would you follow?

I live in NYC - so the "normal" touristy things are not what I'm asking about. This is... "ok, one free day to do whatever you want". I may post a photo-journal of the day when done.

Which day.

well you can't do anything that NYC is indeed full of tourists everyday... you just have to live with it.. Just relax and find time to enjoy yourself.

This Thursday. Possibly Friday - either too or instead.

And by "non-touristy" - I just mean I'm not going to visit the Empire State Build, e.g.. This is a carte blanch (sp?) type thing.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off, so to speak.

personally, I'd grab my book, a blanket, a sandwich, and spend the day at Central Park. I have enough running around to do at work.

Or I'd visit some bars around town or explore some not too frequented areas like Greenpoint. It's still "restaurant week" so get a table at a fancy place for only $24.07.

spend some time catching rays in the park
catch an indie flick at the Angelica downtown
do some shopping in soho
check out some random art galleries
walk by the river
scope out the hot girls on 5th between 40th and 50th, thank me later
find random unemployed korean girls in K-town and take them for an afternoon drunken karaoke session
get a massage at Tui-Na in flatiron (cheap and good)
search for mafoofan on the UWS
take the train to brighton beach, get drunk on cheap vodka, fill yourself up on tasty soviet food, and enjoy the trashy russian scene
catch a baseball game
see some jazz at the lennox lounge

No. It's my friend. But I don't like AMPs.

Some good ideas here. Picking up a Russian girl at Brighton Beach and getting her drunk on vodka and then making her walk in her high heels sounds amusing.

On the other hand, I have to pick something up at Bergdorf's. So maybe 40th to 50th on 5th avenue it will be. I'm wondering why south of 50th is better than 50-57? Conde Naste - but that's 42 at 7th. Bryant Park is about the perimeter of the grazing grounds for them.

Last Friday I took NJT to Long Branch and enjoyed a nice day at the beach for $22 round trip and beach pass. Central park and stopping at the MET for lunch and some art viewing would also be relaxing. Also on Fridays you can take the Ferry for free to Gov. Island and borrow a bike (also free) and ride around. They have a park and some art exhibits along the trails, and some of the old buildings are open to tour around in.
