I guess he and its owner, Mort Zuckerman, see eye to eye. Best part:
What’s the reaction you get from people who see inside your closet? They say, ‘Matt, you have like 30 blue shirts and half a dozen tweed jackets in different tones of brown!’ But I think that’s just me. I don’t like the idea of reinventing myself every day and season. Style is incidental.

+1. They don't. Unless you're poor, they offer fin aid. But he doesn't appear to be poor. And he's white. Weird.

They offer sports scholarships all the time. I know people who have gotten full rides to schools like Princeton, Colgate, etc... Sports is a completely different beast.

that is called financial aid. Different from a schlarship. Athletic scholarships are prohibited by the Ivy League.

And Colgate isn't in the Ivy League to begin with.

Whatever, I'm not going to get into an argument over semantics and pedantry.

Ivy League schools provide need-based financial aid only. Interesting that Trepanier says he received a basketball scholarship. Perhaps Columbia has a recruiting violation.

Ivies don't permit athletic scholarships -- so either that line about Columbia basketball is a steaming load of BS, or the school is in violation of its divisional charter.

That said, Ivies do recruit athletes. Mainly for football, but it would not surprise me to see it happen with basketball. The only catch is that the "recruits" aren't paid for; they get an easier admissions process, but not a free ride.

Actually, you are completely wrong. The Ivy League has a strict prohibition against providing athletic scholarships. From wikipedia, "Unlike most Division I athletic conferences, the Ivy League prohibits the granting of athletic scholarships; all scholarships awarded are need-based (financial aid)." This policy is based on the Ivy Group Agreement, which established academic, financial, and athletic standards for athletics in the Ivies. One of its major tenets is that "The members of the Group reaffirm their prohibition of athletic scholarships. Athletes shall be admitted as students and awarded financial aid only on the basis of the same academic standards and economic need as are applied to all other students." Colgate is a member of the Patriot League. The Patriot League has also had a longstanding tradition of not offering athletic scholarships either. This policy has changed in recent years; however, most of the schools in the league provide far fewer athletic scholarships than traditional Division I programs.
