Did a search and could not find the info.

I may be in Berkeley for a conference in Late oct. Any suggestions for hotels?
May have to adhere to an academic budget.

Much thanks

The Durant is the only decent hotel near campus. Of course, my info is way out of date.

When I recently traveled to berkeley I stayed at a homewood suite in oakland on the water. It was OK, seemed tired. But nothing really great in that area anyways. I just usually stick with Hilton Brand for points. It was a quick drive for me.

The Claremont is really nice. There's a great breakfast spot called Rick & Ann's near the hotel. http://www.claremontresort.com/ Edit: Didn't see the note about you being on a budget. There are a bunch of smaller motels on University Avenue (west of the Cal campus).

There's a place on Shattuck right by the BART station that is decent, or at least used to be. Nothing great, but ok. But I'd start by seeing what kind of deals you can get at the Claremont or the Durant.

Hello,

Any food suggestions? I know we think EGs at $400 are a bargain but I will be traveling on an academic budget and may have other academics with us.

Much thanks once again.

Chez Panisse or Lalime's are very good.

Zachary's is a good Chicago-style pizza place.

Breads of India is a good Indian.

Cesar for tapas and right next door Mint Leaf for Indian food and an inexpensive wine list. Both are on Shattuck next to Chez Panesse.

I like Mint Leaf more than Breads of India. Mint Leaf uses local organic foods and has live music most nights. They let you hang around and listen after you eat.

Thank you.

Is this like real Indian food or like the quickly make vindaloo stuff? Also north or south Indian.
Chez panise was on ma list, Think they have monday prix fixe dinners. Has anyone been to those and are they worth it?

Tapas are an excellent idea.
