How do you study?

I'll have the textbook, some notes, homework, and sometimes, a few peers. I'll usually review all of the material before attempting to join a group study. I'll ask questions about the stuff I didn't quite understand.

I've never gained anything from a group study.

I usualy shower, wait untill my girlfriend goes to sleep, then make myself coffee and study in silence.

Read applicable textbook for fifteen minutes, browse interwebs, resume reading for five minutes, pour a drink, smoke, browse interwebs, sleep.

I can't group study. I usually spend an hour, maybe 2, every day going over everything that was covered in my classes. I usually read it over a few times before I go to the next step. One of the most effective ways to memorize something is the Read-Write-Say method. So basically when I'm studying, I just read over my notes, re-write them and organize them, then read them out loud. For the most part it just depends on what i'm studying.

Osmosis by sleeping on the textbook.

When i study i usually use everything at my disposal. If its a test on a book. I read the section a few more times and think in my head what questions are most likely to be asked based on other quizzes if its not the first one. takes about an hour usually. If its a final exam. i just try and absorb as much as i can, going in and asking the teacher\\other students if i don't understand something, over the course of 2 weeks or so

i've heard you should review your notes after class but who has time for that?

i read the text, take notes from the text, and review my class notes.

group study = dealing with stupid people, no thanks.

I like to just re-write stuff a few times, read over the chapter, all in the library. I can't study at home.

Group study has been nearly entirely useless for me. The only time it has been of benefit is when teaching the material helps myself learn the material "subliminally" (as is the case with statistics) or when I have missed notes and it becomes an opportunity to bum notes in exchange for helping/explaining. In some classes, like accounting, I'll help groups study because I don't need to study myself/I know the information so well just to help the poor children/boost my ego. I like reading, highlighting and occasionally creating a study guide with key information that shows the break down of the material (since it can usually be broken down in to something like A. 1.2.3 B. 1.2. C. 1.2.3.4) I also like to tug around the book with me every where and study it any where I have a few minutes, some times in high stress situations, common areas, on the bus, before another class starts. I find this helps the information "sink in" so I know the information unconsciously.

I want to do this, it makes sense. Never get the motivation though

Am I the only person who only writes down what the professor writes on the whiteboard?

That's the easy answer for an A. For us who are young and ignorant, we see that as too much work and think we are smart enough to teach ourselves. Obviously, it doesn't always work as well as we intend

You don't even write that down? I never used to write anything down either, but people gave me the impression that that was somehow treasonous so I started writing down just what the professor writes. But I know many people who constantly write while the professor is talking.
