Rating Wines - Page 2

Good article. The statement that holds the most truth for me is the one about tasting too many wines in a day. When I was reading the first part of the article, I was thinking to myself, "How can you stand tasting so many in a day?" I know my tongue literally burns out if I taste too many. Interesting to see the results of consistency and agree with all the variables to account for them.

+1. When I've gone on big wine tasting trips, palate fatigue is a huge issue. I can start out strong and able to pick out the secondary and tertiary nuances that make spectacular wines what they are. But after a while, I can't reach that far in the tasting. I go from the detailed to a very high level of "big, bold, nice tannins" without the ability to grasp much more beyond that.

At a dinner, I can usually stand 15-20 wines without much issue, the food helps to re-hone my ability to taste.

Anything beyond that is usually beyond my ability to fairly judge a wine and will be properly noted in my little book of tasting notes.
