I'm in Pi Kappa Alpha, and the guys of my fraternity are some of my best friends (the job and alumni connections do not hurt either) any other styleforum pikes?

It wasn't serious, it was more of something for traditions sake, the term had been used in my chapter since at least the 60s, but they never actually did anything...I believe its no longer in use.

Typical small timers.

I never understood the people who claimed that being in a fraternity makes you best friends for life. There were cool people in our house and there were dickheads. I had friends from all over and nearly 25-years later my best friends are still my fellow cross-country team members from high school.

The fraternity was a fun way to have a social life and a group of guys to hang with in college but it has never been beneficial in a business or social setting since graduation.

i was a phi sig too, whered you go to school?

I'll revive this thread because I now have a decision to make. I never did an undergrad fraternity, but as a first year pharmacy student I received bids for both of the pharmacy-related fraternities at my college (there are no undergrad frats here...go figure). It is a small private school in the middle of bumfuck, so I don't really know anyone and want the social aspect and camaraderie. Both frats are coed and professional oriented but still have the social bonds. I like frat A more, but if I were to pledge then I would literally be the only guy in my pledge class (the whole pharmacy school ratio is 3 female:1 male)....not necessarily complaining, but I'm sure the estrogen filled climate will get to me eventually. Frat B has more guys in it, and there would be more guys in my pledge class. They also have more of the "party" reputation. But frat B also has the benefit of being the only fraternity on campus to have a house and being the largest and oldest pharmacy fraternity in the country.

I've never been a social type, although I am trying to break out of it. People say that you should join one that fits your personality...neither frat seems to fit me like a glove but Frat A has the edge. But Frat B would have the brotherhood I am looking for, and could help me break out of my introverted mold. Thoughts? Has anyone joined a frat with less confidence, but ultimately thought it to be the best decision?
