Is Ferrari second to Lamborghini?

Ferrari F430 is $187,000. V8 engine with 490 HP. Lamborghini Gallardo is $198,000. V10 engine with 560 HP. I'm wondering why prices are identical, but tech specs aren't. Why does the Lamborghini have a V10 engine with 70 more HP, but only costs 11k more. Are lamborghinis known to be better, or does Ferrari want to keep their car more "normal"

Are you buying a car? Or are you buying just the engine?

A car, but isn't speed the selling point for these cars?
It's one of them. But: a - HP and displacement don't always correlate directly to speed. b - what kind of speed are you looking for? straightline acceleration? top speed? or speed around a track? handling is a big part of speed around a road course.

Acceleration - 0-60 and something like acceleration when driving 50mph and you want to go to 85mph. I don't want to be driving 150mph and crash or something, not that kind of speed. I have quite a ways until I can afford these cars.

Its not going to make a difference, especially for someone who hasn't driven a vehicle remotely as fast before. Welcome Ariepan II

Corvette ZR1 - 638 HP, $106k. HP is not the only thing you're paying for. Is Ferrari second to Chevy?

This is a fail thread. Understand that each car has it's pros and cons in comparison with each other.

more status.

If you want a good car buy a porsche.

No, Ferrari is only 2nd to God, at least that's the impression I got from all the Ferrari owners. If you want fast "affordable" and daily useable European sports car, buy a Porsche 911 Turbo.

If power/speed is all that matter then I will suggest you buy a Evo VIII, modified the hell out of it instead...

I have driven: Z06, F430 Spyder, Lambo, Ford GT, Most of the Porches and a hodgepodge of others.

All of the cars were two yrs old or less except the GT. NO IMHO the F430 was one of the more drivable cars. Meaning comfortable yet ferocious when called upon. I said drove not owned so what do I know. Lastly, if I was to buy an exotic sports car in todays market I would buy the Audi R8. I have heard it is the most comfortable exotic sports car on the market. I have not driven.

Horespower per pound of weight is correlated with speed/acceleration. A few of my friends drive Ferraris and they constantly bitch about the maintenance costs. An engine service is required often and must be done out of body for $15K+. Go with Porsche, great daily drivers and plenty fast.

The Ferrari F430 wasn't created to be a daily driver type of car. Remember, Porsches are essentially consumer cars first...racecars second. While Ferrari in some aspects (more so in the past), sells cars to consumers to further boost funding for their racing cars.

Get both, why does it have to be a competition ? ;-) To change the spark plugs on a Ferrari engine, the whole engine needs to be lifted out of the car. Cost: $2000+ Just to give you an inkling....

The only Porsche you should ever be buying is the 911, and no Lamborghini isn't in a higher tier than Ferrari.

I saw a black R8 today on the highway and it looked very sexy. I would buy the R8 in a heartbeat if I had the money.
