Best places to go in {LA, Miami, Vegas, NY}?

I am planning to go to America next year with friends. We'll be there for about 4 weeks and plan on going to LA, Vegas, Miami and New York.

I know I won't be able to cram everything in 4 weeks but I want to do as many things as I can.

The only thing I can think of at the moment is seeing the Grand Canyon. Any other suggestions.

Sedona, AZ is like being on Mars. LA is okay, but Santa Barbara is much more beautiful. College girls, great scenery and food and the Santa Ynez valley is nearby. Go on a tour of the Santa Ynez wineries.

If you are into strange and extreme geography how about Death valley in the summer. You can find out what its like to walk around in 125 degree heat.

I visited NYC recently for the first time in my life. What a wonderful city indeed. So much to see but so little time to do it in. I have a hard time seeing anyone not liking the city.

One thing I wanted to do but didn't get around to was to take a helicopter/chopper tour around Manhattan. They're not as expensive as one (including myself first) might think. I'm guessing the city from above really is something extra.

I think Las Vegas is all the same-old same-old you see on TV so you need only spend a few days there to get the full experience (because it'll be the same when you come back, just with different hotels). Eat, shop, gamble, and party. However, LA, Miami, and NY are great if you enjoy shopping (duh). For high end shopping, there's Maxfield in LA or The Webster in Miami, and just about everything in New York. Venice Beach is interesting if you're into the whole crazy people on the boardwalk-type scenery, but there's not much to do except walk down the boardwalk. Some stores on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills are interesting to look at, even if you don't plan on buying anything (like the Prada store). Do you plan on straying away from LA at all to Orange County or San Diego? There are a lot of sightseeing things in San Diego if that's your kind of thing. I've never actually done a lot of this stuff even though I live here but La Jolla, Del Mar, and Coronado are all very resorty if you ever want to just relax by the beach. They're also all very expensive places to stay, so maybe you're better off doing other stuff if you're going to 4 cities. I just couldn't not endorse San Diego here...
