What an absolute disaster.
Took the fiancee for a little overnight trip to the Casino Resort. The hotel was fine, certainly not worth the nightly rate. Probably won't return to the hotel or the Casino because Caesar's Windsor is better in every single way, but generally there was nothing wrong with them. Room looked right over the falls.
So I get a reservation at 17 Noir, their obviously-overpriced steak house, but only one of two "fine-dining" options available. I regret not going for the Italian.
We get to the restaurant, and we're clearly over dressed (She's in a dress and I'm in blazer/trouser/tie combo). We get seated outside on the terrance and all is well. We both order the same salad, both come with bacon despite it not being listed on the menu, if it was she would have asked them to hold it because she doesn't eat pork. We don't say anything because we're outside and we're the only people out there and the waiter only comes outside when he wants to bring us something (typical Canadian service).
The steaks come some time later. My "medium" steak has a tiny, tiny pink centre but I say whatever and eat it. Her "medium rare" is FULLY cooked. Places overcook sligtly all the time but this was a hunk of fully cooked beef. We get the waiter back, which is hard like I said. We send hers back and a new one comes 10 minutes later and it's blue. The steak was 100% raw inside and seared on the outside.
The waiter is mildly apologetic. I asked him in a friendly joking manner, but serious, if we are being picky, and whether or not he agrees that the steak is blue. He is hesitant to admit it for some reason and mumbles something about it being hard to tell because its based on temperature (funny though because you don't order by temperate you order by color). I would have gladly paid the 44 dollars for her steak if she was just being picky but this was clearly not the case.
She tells them to take it away because she doesn't want it. By this time I'm 2/3rds done my tasteless steak. I should have sent mine back in hindsight so we could have eaten, or not eaten, together.
They gave us free desert which was OK, but nothing special. The Manager did not come to apologize or anything, they just took her steak off the bill.
In retrospect I should have foreseen the poor service and lack of attention to detail because its such a touristy place, and in Canada to boot.
To add insult to injury the balcony overlooked The Keg where we could have gone and gotten a steak cooked properly for half the price. Which is pretty sad if The Keg is beating out a supposed high-end steak house.
