John Carpenter

He's always been one of my favorites, but I've recently been rewatching a lot of his stuff. Watched Assault on Precinct 13, The Fog, The Thing, and They Live in the past few weeks. I think Escape from New York will probably be up next. He's made some less than stellar stuff lately, but he could put out a POS movie every year till he dies and I'd still consider him one of the greats.

Also...his soundtracks are killer...

If you ever get a chance to listen to the director's commentary on The Thing you should do it. Kurt Russell and Carpenter are very funny. The commentary on BTLC is extremely boring though.

+1 on The Thing commentary. It's really one of the best remakes ever.

John Carpenter was absolutely amazing, and I hope he makes a comeback at some point.

Saw Escape from NY at the local film archive awhile ago, and I enjoyed it tremendously. Still one of my all-time favorite films in any genre.

He's supposed to be currently shooting a new horror flick in Spokane. Fingers crossed.

Spokane is rather terrifying.

+1000 Incredible flick. So was They Live, Prince of Darkness, The Thing. Almost every single movie Carpenter makes is just a re-make of Assault on 13, but I still love em.

"The Thing" was an amazing remake

He doesn't get recognized often for "Bodybags" and original film made up of several short stories but I love that one too. Especially the story where Luke Skywalker gets big shard of glass stuck in his eye!!!

Never heard of this, must see!

It really is a great film, even if it is a little campy. Check out the list of legendary horror directors who make cameos

Without a doubt. And this is my favorite Carpenter movie (well, of those I've seen).

No love for "Dark Star"?

Agree on "The Thing"; the best horror film not made by Roman Polanski.
