Pretty good look for a Filson zipper tote:

Also, curious how you bring the sportsman and the small duffle on at the same time as carry on? Does one have less stuff so you can shove it under the seat in front?

I'll check if there's any left and let you know.

As for the carry on regulations, domestic (Canada) and US flights lef you take on a small bag (the small duffle) and a briefcase (if you don't overfill the sportsman it passes, and can fit under the seat if needed). I didn't have any problems or questions in any of the flights.
Here's a (bad) picture of both bags for sizes

Don't worry about checking. You have the newer model. I'm looking for the older discontinued model that has zippers on the outside pockets instead of flaps. I think your pic actually makes the two tone look much better.

I found the older model 266, but in black. Wanted it in otter or tan, and it's still $325. Ugh...decisions.

That's the bag, but it is expensive...even with the exchange rate if that's in CAD...dammit.

Edit: Just called them up and they don't have it, just the new Heritage version.

Thanks for checking!

Old 266 in otter green...good luck if you bid.

You're freakin awesome. Have no idea why it didn't pop up when I searched for it.

That's a 9-year old bag. Is a full-loaded 266 too bag/fat as a carry-on?

Not likely cause the old 266 is very structured in shape compared to the Filson medium duffle.
I had issues squeezing items beyond its capacity for the main compartment although you can stuff the side pockets a bit more.

The 266 zippered pockets are really capacious. I can stuff my 12" laptop in one and my size 11 Chuck Taylors in the other. But I still don't think you can stuff the Sportsman sufficiently where it would not meet airline carry-on standards.

I saw a sweet and rare blue Sportsman 266 at Fortnum & Mason in London three months ago. But never black. If you're using it for business travel, black isn't so bad, I imagine.

Bought mine new (tan) for under 200 in Ebags in the Spring - it's definitely a bag that has grown on me due through use. It pushed my small duffle and large Filson tote into extinction. Still use the medium duffle as checked.

Was thinking about selling my Sportsman's bag in otter green so I could buy a tan version - sad to see it's been discontinued. It makes for a great carry-on and has served me well in numerous weekend trips and adventures abroad. Like previously mentioned, you can pack a ton and the outer pockets hold quite a lot. I like the green color but the tan's ability to actually show stains has been enticing recently, after seeing a friend's 256 with some amazing patina. I got it for $185 new though, so I can't complain too much, especially since it's leather seems to be of the "older" quality.

I like the 266 more than any of their other carry-on options, though the 48 hour duffle looks pretty nice. Tin cloth is not that appealing to me though.

Now that my dream of trading my Sportsman in for a tan version has been dashed, I'll have to figure out if I should sell off my Harris Tweed 256 for a green version for matching or tan to mix it up. Decisions, decisions...

I actually preferred the old 266 in olive compared to the tan as the brass zippers has a very nice contrast against olive canvas (sold it cause I realize a 246 suits my usage better). This is actually coming from someone who loves and only wanted Filson bags in Tan. biggrin.gif

If you checked out the filsonfan.com site or any of the older pictures in this thread then you would know that the Tan and the Olive ends up looking almost the same 10 years down the road (assuming your filson survives that long). Is your current 256 Harris tweed version in blue or black? I think matching colors makes for a more coordinated look when you're walking around the airport but that's just me smile.gif

I have the 256 in black with the grey Harris Tweed. It gets a loooot of compliments, but I was thinking about getting a 257 for more space anyway.

Does anyone have the large duffle? Just wondering because if filled it seems like it would be too dam heavy to carry and that using two smaller bags might be better? I'm trying to figure out a functional setup so that I could use bags individually or take them all for a family trip. I have two young girls and my wife packs a lot of "just in case" stuff.

Setup 1:
266 sportsman
Small duffle
Medium duffle

Setup 2:
Small duffle or 48 hour
Meridian
Medium duffle

Setup 3:
48 hour duffle
Small duffle
Medium duffle

Am I over thinking this?
