Filson Bag Thread: With Pictures - Page 250

Hi everyone...first post so be gentle =)

So I just got off the phone with a Filson rep to order the 256 tan.

But when I told them that I'd like to add the handgrip for $20, they said that this feature is only for the green and brown version.

Huh?

Is that right?

That doesn't seem to make sense to me at all...that the color would matter as to whether I could add the handgrip or not...

Is she misinformed?

Thanks for the help/info in advance

I cannot believe that is correct. Maybe call back to see if you get a different rep or if you get the same ask for shift manager.

Is that circular silver ring on the leather patch that holds the D ring to the bag a repair ?

Noticed that as well - don't think it was a repair, but not sure what it was.

wconcept has a 30% off sale using code formom30 if anyone is interested, I am going to pass as they only have the navy on the 256

It looks like they have a web sale on their site for the small wool field bag and the tote briefcase bag, for those interested.

^ They've all been out of stock since I first saw them go up on the site. Never actually saw any for sale at any point, unfortunately.

I have noticed that too upon closer inspection.

ugh it's so hard to decide on a color for the 256. I'm leaning towards the brown or otter green. I ruled out navy since my current bag is navy and over time I think the dirt/patina on the tan would bother me. I know, I know I should embrace it's beauty as it ages, but visible dirt would really bother me.

Your next consideration is the level of contrast between the canvas and leather straps ... brown would be much more subtle while the otter green more obvious.

FYI, Brooks Brothers is having a 25% off sale which applies to Filson through 5/12.  From what I read they have a 40% off sale once or twice a year that may also be worth holding out for?

Hey does anyone know if the London store stocks the small field bag (230) and how much they charge? Have previously only bought online not sure if it's worth checking the store out.

I may be stating the obvious here, but the 230 really is a small bag with a small mouth opening. Very easy to fill it up very quickly. Make doubly sure that the size meets your needs.

I find the 232 medium field bag to be far more flexible, but on the negative side you have to deal with 2 buckles instead of one.

I already have a medium field bag, I actually just want a smaller bag to carry my phone charger/battery, ipad, book, bottle of water, and small umbrella which I believe this fits that purpose.

^^ 100% agreement

While the medium field bag is so classic-looking, the dual buckles can be cumbersome and is the main reason why I've listed mine for sale.

I've since replaced it with the messenger bag (70025) ... it only has 1 strap to access the main compartment, but more importantly, it features a zippered compartment on the exterior back of the bag for quick access to essentials and an interior liner with multiple compartments for better organization. Granted, the messenger is not as aesthetically appealing as other Filson's ... which is likely why it's since been discontinued ... but I do find it much more practical.

Seems like you know what you want and are intending to check out in the Londinium store. I'd take along all the items you intend to carry, making sure that (where applicable) they are wrapped in protective sleeves and see how well they all fit in. I'd then consider how much free space you have for lunch box, impulse buys, etc.
