Filson Bag Thread: With Pictures - Page 221

Got my sportsman bag like a month or so ago, loved em to bits! Use em every time I hit the gym, though I do find they are a tad too small for me, since my shoes barely fit in there since I usually bring a small toiletry bag, big towel, 2 bottles, pants, shirt and its already too full. I do find it a bit too heavy to carry them around my shoulders though, luckily I drive a car so its just a trip from the carpark to the gym.

I'm thinking of getting a briefcase next. And Ive been reading a few reviews of the 256, 257 and the 258 and do find myself undecided. I would appreciate it if you guys could give me some input lol.

Here are some random thoughts:

* I'd be most likely carry a headphone, some books to read,  a water bottle, battery pack, 3 cell phones, and on some day lunch box for the office. Maybe a change of cloth for the gym occasionally.

* I was thinking of getting the 256 (and bring 2 separate bag, put the headphone, water bottle etc on the sportsman bag), and wait for apple to release the macbook air with retina display. But no strap to cover the handle like the 257 or 258 does bother me a bit.

* I wanna stick to the plan and build a collection of filson bag with a uniform colour and get all the tan, but I'm really loving the navy ones. If I do end up getting a navy one, it'd either be a 256 or 258 since theres no navy 257 yet.

* I do like the thought of a sleek minimalist briefcase like the 256, but the extra pouch compartment on the 258 is very handy and useful in my case, since I can put and have quick access on my cellphones when I need them without opening up the main compartment of the bag.

Right now, I think Im leaning towards the 258 or the 256 in navy colour. Are there any sites that offer a decent discount for any of these two?

Thanks again!

I'm planning to get a 256 in either the regular navy or the navy twill + tweed version. I do like the accent that the Harris tweed provides, but I'm a bit concerned about durability. Will the tweed be more liable to fraying/getting soft as compared to the 22oz canvas?

I check on their site, and it seems most of their prices are marked up first, then given a certain amount of disc, to appear cheaper, but I compared it to working person or filson site, and they are more expensive.

Nordstroms, is the best place to buy Filson. They will price match any posted discount, and their customer service is amazing,

Quick question is this finishing of the threads normal?

I received the bag like that... it is brand new.

Yup, that's normal. That's just what backtacking looks like, which is the proper strong way to finish a stitch. Some places won't backtack or will take more time to hide it so that it's more aesthetically pleasing. But, regardless, it's a sign that the stitch is more secure, not less.

CREATOR: gd-jpeg v1.0 (using IJG JPEG v62), quality = 75

realtree.com's picture of Filson's camera bags. It's a rehashed Original Sportsman bag. Now I wish I didn't own one.

Thanks for the interior pic. I think I'll pass on it.

I don't have enough camera gear to fill that one up.

An aggressive/sharp zipper next to camera storage is *not* a good idea.
