Filson Bag Thread: With Pictures - Page 179

LP is for leather, don't use it on twill. I rewax my twill stuff once in a blue moon. It's a tedious and time consuming process that involves several cans of wax and a hair dryer. The process is very much like my infamous Crane's method of waterproofing boots. It doesn't darken the fabric anymore than what a "fresh" new bag from Filson looks like.

In the last year I added a tan twill messenger bag and a tan oiled tin cloth backpack. My backpack is one of the early ones without the sleeve. It works great for rock hunting/fishing/hiking day trips. I don't find it to be too uncomfortable when it's loaded up. Sure it's not an Osprey but for light trips or around town it isn't a big deal IMO. The messenger makes for a decent camera bag and it's also great for the days that I don't need a 257's worth of crap with me when working.

Has anyone seen or gotten the red label tote (261) in cobalt? Any comparisons to the navy?

What camera equipment are you carrying and what padding?

I'm wondering if a Domke wrap would work well in yhe messenger bag?

Camera body, speedlight, 2 or 3 lenses, spare batteries or film, notebook, pens... I use a good old fashioned towel on the bottom for padding and another one folded up down and around to keep things from bouncing against each other. I use a towel in a similiar fashion to what Saddleback Leather does with their camera bag divider sort of thing. Tanner makes a very interesting camera bag these days. I'm going to be talking to them soon about getting one. It's very Filson like. Check it out when you get a chance. I'm going to pick one up soon.

Looks interesting, but a bit boxy which most camera bags tend to be. Nature of the beast. I'm using a medium field bag with DSLR in a lowepro case, extra lens in padded case and then an eagle creek padded cube for the x100. It all fits in, but it is a tight squeeze.

I used a field bag for eons. It's too bad I left it in the garage for a while. Damn mice found it, chewed it up and turned it into their house. I wonder if it's covered under warranty? LOL!

Not only the leather but the tan waxed twill and heavy wool divider system. If there ever was a camera bag that screams "me" this would be it. It fits my personal style and tastes to a tee.

What's the difference between Filson 256 and 257, except for the size?

Tore apart between the 2 sportsmen bag:

sportsmen bag

- Love the 2 additional bass zip - but looks idential to my 257

- Leather strap

original (new) sportsmen bag

- Looks both awesome in some photos, but ugly in others -> the one with tan top and otter green bottom

- Yucky new strap - I can get away with it by using my 257 though.

Or heck both and just get a small duffle bag.

Sadly there is no Filson store in Singapore so I have to take a gamble. Any advice?

Is anyone still waiting for a filson from onward reserve that was on backstock during that gilt city deal? They said they'd be in in a couple weeks when I first ordered back at the start of June. Still hasn't shipped.

Anyone know if it's possible to order directly from specific Filson stores?

I believe that you can simply call up a Filson store (excluding the outlet) and place an order. What it would gain you over ordering over the web or via their 1-800 number I am not sure.

Are your selection criteria purely based upon looks with no functional requirements ?

Small duffle for the win if you don't need the pockets of the sportsman bags - of which I would only consider the 70266.
