Whats the best bag to use if I want to fit my laptop (15") + lunch (maybe a sandwich /w an ice pack or leftovers in pyrex, ) +snacks (usually fruit) + water

I need to start taking public transportation every so often, and I really don't want to carry 2 bags (one for food, one for laptop)

Decided to take advantage of the balmy Mn. spring weather now that it is in the 20's and shoot some skeet at the gun club today. I use my brown sportsman's bag as a shooting bag. Everyone else has the same type of bag but in black or green nylon, which is why they are called a sportsman bag of course.

Came back in the clubhouse to get some more shells out of my bag for another round and a guy walked past 60 people and their bags on the tables to get to me. He said I looked like someone that knew what I was doing and asked if I had a pair of needle nose pliers in my bag, he had busted a screw off on his scope mount and needed to dig it out. I reached in and handed my leatherman pliers to him, took him all of 30 seconds to get it out of the mount. He handed them back and said he just knew that I had what he needed. There really is something about a Filson.....

Wind picked up and had to pull the wool ear flaps down on the otter green insulated Filson hat the last 2 rounds. Girlfriend has threatened to throw my hat in the washing machine several times. I keep telling her if she ever does to walk out the door and keep going, and don't bother looking back.

Dear LawrenceMD

I'm wondering where did you get your extra wide shoulder strap. And how long ago was it as well as, was it about the same price point as the scrawny ones that Filson now sells? Thanks for your response.

sorry that wasn't my strap, it was a random picture I found on flickr of a older filson bag with patina. but i did end up contacting the owner and he said that it was a custom strap he had made for him.

Filson zippers are not electronics-friendly I guess... Those teeth made noticeable scars on my laptop and iPad frown.gif

I must admit to being one of the people who always found Filson's briefcases a little boring. Now that the 256 comes in Navy I find myself really wanting one. Might have to snag me one soon. The color really elevates the bag to another level.

Does anyone know who makes/where I can find brass rivets like Filson uses on their bags? They are significantly more solid than any brass rivets I've found anywhere else, they make Tandy rivets look like a joke. I know YKK does the zippers, and I can find comparable buckles. But the rivets have just thrown me.

That said, my 257 is amazing. Looks better and better, getting all sorts of wear marks on it. Green was such the right color for me.

Selling a Filson medium duffle in tan.  Used only a few times.  $250 shipped.  Check it out.

Has anybody had their green bag turn brown?
My green 257 is slowly fading and now longer looks like wax olive.
How do I restore the waxy ness and green color?
How do I remove slight denim stains and such?

you can't. the tan gets dirty. the olive fades. that's why some people like the brown. its most likely to stay consistent throughout its lifespan.

What makes it fade, the sun?

Also, what the official SF approved washing, rewaxing method?

Searched but couldn't find.

My otter green 256 is fading in the same way, but only in some places. I'm not sure what you mean by waxy though. My bag was never waxy to begin with.
