I'm guessing they switched away from YKK zippers for financial reasons. Looking at both zippers, the Filson zippers appear to be more copper colored while the YKK zippers appear to be more yellow colored. I think I prefer the look of the YKK.

On a different note, I recently treated the bridle leather of my 246 with Obenauf's LP. The issue is that some of the stitching has turned white. Can I assume that this will eventually be absorbed by the leather and fade away? It's been three days now and there is still significant white coloring on some of the stitching.

The back of my rig this spring when fishing on the lower Root. On call and had to carry the laptop and then headed out to shoot some skeet in the afternoon at the club. There aren't any trout in NE Iowa or SE Mn. either, or any limestone streams. It is a secret we are trying to keep damn it and then someone has to make a video, sighhh.....  Nice job BTW.

Water is fine but try brushing with a stiff bristle brush first. If brushing doesn't work, use water and a sponge or cloth to spot clean the dirty marks. I've also used a diluted solution with laundry detergent. the only problem is that once you use water & soap, the wax in the material and water resistance will be gone so you'll need to rewax those areas with filson wax or maybe try otter wax or even barbour's wax.

regarding zippers. I got my 257 in late october from Joe's and it had YKK zippers

Hello All Filson-ophiles,
 
I am about to buy my first ever Filson bag. It is supposed to be a replacement for my Freitag F46 CLARK bag (http://www.freitag.ch/Fundamentals/Sports-Bags/CLARK/pa/ZH_48987).
If you know the model mentioned above you know that I am used to have quite heavy and big bag and also equipped with almost one compartment only.
 
I will use this bag:
- when going for a weekend or few days long trips (MacBookPro 17", iPad, chargers, cosmetics, hoody, a pair of pants, few pairs of socks and underwear, few T-shirts, a book and around 8"x6"x6" plastic food container)
- when going to the gym: (shoes, socks, shorts ... etc, here shouldn't be a problem with any bag, only if you may have problems with fitting the bag itself into the locker)
- when going for bigger trip, as my hand luggage.
 
I am looking at two models now. I was looking only at Duffel but after reading most of this thread, started thinking that Traveler may be a better choice. Both would be size: medium, both in the same color: "tan", both have same price.
 
My worries are: 
- will they easily contain the mentioned laptop 15.5"x10.5"x1"?
- is color called "tan" the same as here at the image http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f127/s3lam/DSC_7920.jpg those images on Filson's page are not too complimentary for the products. I believe that this is Traveler medium on the image I have "stolen" from one of previous answers.
- is there any online store based in Europe selling them? I Googled quite a bit and it is not an easy task

The 257 has a pocket for a water bottle where the strap is. My question is if 256 also got the same pocket?

It has a pocket, but if you read earlier in the thread (no more than three weeks), you can barely fit anything in them.

Hey Jacek, welcome to the forum. I've had the medium duffle for a year and just got the medium travel bag last week (so I probably can't lend as much insight about that as other members can). The medium duffle is probably too big if you want one bag for all of these things. It can be used for weekend trips, but it isn't an ideal carryon. Also, unless you bring quite a bit to the gym, it won't make a good gym bag because it will be so empty and lacking structure. The medium travel bag would likely suit your needs much better. I'm not sure how big of a laptop the outer sleeves can fit, but i would guess a laptop that size could definitely fit on the inside. I can check tomorrow, but another member may be able to provide info sooner. As for the medium travel bag as a gym bag, I don't know if it would be too big, but I think it would be ok. It might be a little much, however it wouldn't have as much extra empty area as the medium duffle.

I'm not sure about online stores in Europe, but depending on where you are located, you could try placing a phone order at one of these places http://www.filson.com/filson/our-company/international-orders/

Thank you for your reply deem. You were really helpful. I think that my 17" MBP should fit in with the sleeve as this is really thin one. I will go with medium Traveler then. Probably will order it form US. Cheers.

I can't say enough good things about my 257. I've had it long enough to know that I love it. The outside pockets are perfect for quickly stashing items (such as a scarf, phone, etc.). I've made use of the key ring on the outside more than once. I did remove the shoulder strap from day one so I can't comment on that (I never like them). The leather handle grip is comfortable enough for my trip to and from the car with a laptop inside. I really have nothing to complain about. For me, it's been the perfect marriage of style and utility.....not too much of either.

The rugged twill I don't think is treated with anything, whereas the tin cloth is treated with oil. The rugged twill also feels like a heavier fabric to me.
