Some of us don't like the exposed Harris Tweed under the straps. I've seen it in person though and it is nice, but I don't like the Harris Tweed under the straps. The Filson rep also showed me the Harris Tweed totes they did for Unionmade as well as an Indigo 256 or 257 with saddle tan bridle straps. I would rather get one of those.

It has two full-length interior pockets and four pockets on the outside of the case. When the bag is not completely full, it compresses neatly to take up less room, yet even when fully stuffed, it is still carry-on compliant.

The medium travel bag holds much more than the sportsman's bag even though they share similar exterior dimensions. I find the sportsman's bag to be nice for shorter trips, but I also find it to be divided up a bit too much for my liking. My biggest problems with the duffle bag are that the interior only has two small end pockets and there are no pockets on the outside of the bag. In addition, when not full, it gets really slouchy looking and doesn't carry well.

If I were to rank them, it would be as follows:
Medium Travel Bag > Sportsman's Bag > Medium Duffle

The Medium Travel Bag is such a hit around our household that my wife recently commandeered it and I was forced to order a second one in Otter Green that will arrive today. It is the perfect size, very easy to pack and has just the right amount of organization.

Damn you, SaddleSC. After reading this, I went and ordered the medium travel bag as well lol. The more I look at pics, the more I think I'll end up agreeing with you on the medium travel bag. I guess I'll have to wait for both to arrive and I see them in person.

That was you? I saw it reappear and then quickly disappear on the site.

I made the mistake of placing my order through the store sales associate. He apparently waited a long time to place the order, because he called me more than five hours later to tell me the bag is no longer available.

Strongly considering a 256, but I'm curious about one thing -- just how narrow are the end pockets?  Would they fit a standard plastic water bottle, for instance?

anyone know the item# for extra large wheeled duffel? I'll try to ask the SA if he can get those instead of the large one..

Not possible in my opinion. You'd be lucky to fit a few pens in it.

Definitely not possible...they are extraordinarily narrow on the 256.

You mean the outside end? You can definitely put water bottles in there...

I think we're talking about the ends where the d-rings are for the shoulder strap.

Like the others have said you're not going to get much in there. You can probably get a few more things in a 257 but definitely not a water bottle or can of pop. All I've got in mind is a reflective leg strap for when I ride my bike and a hacky sack.

Hey Mujib, sorry if that was me. I thought there was one still available after I checked out, but I could have been wrong. When I decide on a bag, I'll pm you before returning it to see if you are still interested.

No problem. I was just kidding.
