Big companies have specific training programs, exposure to certain parts of the business, etc. In certain industries especially - finance, consulting, law, accounting - having the right names on your resume means EVERYTHING.

a mix in nice, though - if you are at a small company in your 20's, you may have done a lot of differnt things, had pretty wide ranging responsibility. that is much harder in a bigger company.

I work in a small firm (50~ people) with 20 people in our office. I like it. It's fun and very familial in culture. We do work hard and are generally more profitable than the larger firms.

Haven't had the same experience as you. I've worked in a very small firm and it was balls. The tendency is to think that small = more responsibility, more rewarding, greater accessibility to the principals, etc. In my case, small = more focus on medial tasks, no accountability, high level of inefficiency, etc. Obviously, it varies from firm to firm.
