i just bought this:

has anyone else tried it and have you gone blind?

The bottling is more interesting then the contents.

Funny idea, glad someone did it. Contents are alcoholic. Nothing special.

i read about how this makes you thankful for the distilling processes used by other companies -- but what i'm really wondering is if it gets you any more drunk.

Nope, it's essentially a hot vodka, 80 proof and all. It may be corn whiskey, but it's definitely not good ole' southern 'white lightnin'. Drink it to be able to say you have, but it's not really good or really bad.

In 1994 or so I bought a bottle of this as a jokey gift for a friend. It was by far the worst whiskey (or whisky) I ever tasted.

I think this is a rather cynical attempt by a distiller to capitalize on some ersatz "moonshine drinkin'" fantasies harbored by "city folk". I distill at home, and I've also tried this stuff, and there's not much similarity between the two. First, this product is obviously cut with water to achieve a 40% abv, as alcohol from the still is about 90% abv. Also, the flavor and intricacies of bourbon whiskeys come from the aging process, not the distilling. Yes, there is some flavor generated by the content of the mash and the fermenting conditions, but a premium bourbon will typically be at least 10 years old, and the flavor and conditions of the wood in which it is aged will be at the top of the taste profile. This stuff tasted pretty nasty as far as I remember, no personality to it and you could get the same effect by putting cheap vodka in a mason jar and tell your friends you bought it from an old shiner in Kentucky

I agree with everything in this entire thread.

Your best bet is to pour some into another mason jar, put some cut-up fruit in there, and just eat the (alcohol-infused) fruit.

It is nothing like real whiskey, nor is it much like the real moonshine that I'm familiar with.

Awwww hell no...

Moonshine and Whiskey are two different things.

I had a couple of fraternity brothers from Chatsworth Georgia, up by the Tennessee line. We went up to go shooting a couple of times and there is a local guy with his own still who sells shine out of his garage (didnt seem to be hiding it at all, law enforcement seems to give him a pass).

Strong as hell, but not much flavour. he sold it in plain unlabeled glass bottles, not masons.

Truth, this is nothing like the real thing, more marketing than anything.. The last moonshine I had tasted like an extremely strong white wine.
