Shipping bottles internationally

I just got my hands on an unopened crate (x12 bottles) of Privilegé V.S.O.P (about 15 years old). I am on vacation now so the box of 12 (in original packaging) is currently sitting in my hotel room.

How do I bring these back into Canada without them breaking? Normally I put bottles in the suitcase. Shall I ship them internationally? What do I declare as their value?

Are you in Europe?

Send them to me and I'll make sure they get to Canada.

Internationally, I don't know. But, domestically, I've received bottles in heavy duty cardboard boxes that have a foam insert with bottle cut outs inside. I imagine that would work internationally too.

I'd expect some breakage no matter what you use though. . .

So a 'Fragile' sticker wouldn't cut it eh...

If no one has a better suggestion, I am going to break the seal and secure each bottle individually.

There are boxes and packing materials made specifically for shipping bottles. I get wine shipped to me all the time. Here's an example of a shipment:

I think your big thing, is going to be the duty and taxes.

Well, I imagine that international shipping is probably going to be by air (unless you want to wait a very long time for your wine), and thus it will be every bit as rough as what happens to checked bags. . .

One of those boxes with the inserts will help a lot I'm sure.
