Are Levi 501s uncool?

Or are they still stylish/fashionable and cool albeit mediocre/middle of the road?

I wouldn't mind paying $100 for a pair of jeans I really really liked, but often times I like different colors and styles and fits for different outtings. Plus I have a sort of brand loyalty.

no, they are not uncool. Go to an army/navy surplus store and get them for dirt cheap!

I usually get the best deals at Kohls.. 20% off or $5 coupon etc..

Levis 501s are classic. What's uncool are all these trendy jeans that you'll no longer be wearing a year or two from now.

Don't they only have the washes, though? No STF, right? Something about every Levis wash that makes even the 501s fit like shit.

I've yet to see that "12 rise look good on anyone. Everytime I see someone post a picture of their "classic and understated" 501s on here I think they would look so much better with a slightly lower rise. There is an area between dad jeans and 3" rise emo pants.

They will look cool to people on SF but to the average person you'll look a bit off, like hamish said high-rise isn't always cool or flattering. People need to get off this vintage = automatically and uncontestably awesome thing; wearing cheap STFs and a western shirt will make you look like a gay cowboy

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I've never seen anyone and think they look like a gay cowboy. Even the cowboys in Brokeback Mountain don't look like gay cowboys.

Actually I don't think you can look like a gay cowboy at all, just...gay.

Just don't wear a Western shirt with them. Almost every "genre" of street style has incorporated 501s in some way.

On the contrary, I think western shirts are one of the few ways a men can be flamboyant, and not look gay.

In the right fit and color hey are cool. The mom-jean stone-wash color can look atrocious though. I just bought a lovely pair from Macy's in a dark-faded indigo color. The new style fit better - the thighs are slightly tighter.

no, they are cool. Especially the 30s styles.

People here always talk about getting 501's really cheap. Does that also apply to the new selvage version?

Anyway, my favorite Levi's cuts are 1947 501's and 1967 505's.
