I'm no expert on fine cuisine, but I liked Gordon Ramsay's restaurant at The London hotel quite a bit.

For pizza, Patsy's on 118th on the East Side is amazing- but getting there might prove too much hassle.

Well, if the goal of the tourist is merely to say he/she was at the top of the Empire State building, then fine. But if the tourist wants to go to a tourist destination, not waste hours in line and simply wants to see breath-taking view of the city, then Top of the Rock more than suffices. I took it that Moo is looking for advice on how to properly spend his time. I hate crowds and lines, thus I would recommend Top of the Rock.

Oh, I generally agree. I just think that the Empire State building is enough of a historic and cultural landmark, aside from the views it offers, to demand a visit from most tourists. The express tickets let you skip all the lines. I took my wife there on her first visit to the city. We got to the top in less than 15 minutes; everyone in line looked upset at us.

Take a walk from Manhattan to Brooklyn via Brooklyn Bridge, have pizza at Grimaldi's, take a stroll in DUMBO and Brooklyn Heights, have pastry at Almondine and/or ice cream at Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory and/or chocolate at Jacque Torres, then walk back. Check Soiffer Haskin's site for sample sale schedules.

I'd imagine the availability and price of certain ingredients, the availability of other cuisines which lead to bastardizations of classic recipes, evolving cultural differences (for example, the lack of long lunches here vs. there), etc.

NYC is a walking city. If the weather's up to it I'd recommend the Time Out book of New York walks.

All you can drink beer and wine for $24 is a pretty solid deal. Maybe Moo can arrange an NYC SF meet-up on the boat? Maybe Foo can splurge for the $2,900 charter for the group, because he's wealthy.

My friend and I 'discovered' the place back in 2005 when we drove up from Maryland to find him an apartment. Maybe the best restaurant I've ever stumbled upon without knowing anything about it in advance.
